In the course of my academic career I did not stick to any one academic specialty. I concentrated on trying to think through on a fully rational basis some fundamental methodological and philosophical problems involved in trying to interpret, understand, and reason about the message of classic texts from several different religious traditions. I ended up questioning many assumptions prevalent among scholars and the general public today, and developed an approach to these texts considerably outside the mainstream. My website mlafargue.com contains essays explaining this approach and its theoretical and philosophical foundations, and applying it to Plato, early Buddhism and Hinduism, early Daoism and Confucianism, early Christianity, and writings from the Gnostic/Occult traditions.
