Michael is an an ethics and leadership instructor at the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership at the US Naval Academy. He is also an Iraq war veteran and former U.S. Army officer. His academic writing and research has focused primarily on concerns having to do civil-military relations, counter-terrorism ethics, veterans issues, contemporary just war theory, the ethics of emerging technologies, and the warrior ethos. His non-academic writing has focused mainly on issues having to do with freedom of speech and the importance of language both within academia and the wider culture. He is originally from South Shore, Massachusetts.
