I teach logic and Philosophy of Mind at Rowan University. My PhD thesis was a defense of direct realism. In 2006 I authored "Could Daniel Dennett be a Zombie?", which is archived on this site. I hold that the mind is the brain, and therefore that it must be true necessarily that brains like ours have consciousness. So I am not a reductionist a la Dennett; rather I believe that the science of the brain must recognize the brain's ability to have states that are "about" -- indeed that allow the sensing of -- external objects.
