This article discusses waste practices in terms of social order and challenges of the Anthropocene. The first part analyses the role of waste in our everyday practices. Based on M. Douglas and G. Hawkins, it begins with the spatiality and temporality of waste, showing how waste is a matter out of place, revealing the temporal structure of use-discard-forget, exploring the relationship between symbolic order and purification rituals, and connecting practices of forgetting to practices of the self. It then moves on to the challenges of the Anthropocene, which complicate the inside-outside distinction and practices of forgetting. In revealing the challenges of the Anthropocene, the main focus is on our changing attitude to waste due to awareness of hyper-connectivity and the accumulation of insignificant actions, and on the new environmental awareness emerging with its unique reflexivity, imagination, and responsibility. A new awareness is discussed, one that evaluates everything not according to the functionality of objects, but their potential to transform into waste. Finally, it asks how “old” and “new” awarenesses can coexist, shaping the conditions of everyday life in the Anthropocene.

This article analyzes two phenomenological approaches to animal life in the context of criticism of anthropocentrism. The first part considers the question of anthropocentrism. Beginning with the posthumanist criticism of anthropocentrism as an ideology of human exceptionalism, the article proposes to reflect human anthropocentricity phenomenologically as a condition of experience. The second part discusses San Martín and Pintos’ approach, which, grounded in Husserl’s analysis of transcendental ego, considers the human-animal relation in terms of egotic subjectivity, corporeality, and the constitution of sense. San Martín and Pintos’ position is very important in the criticism of anthropocentrism, and yet it is considered insufficient when reflecting the diversity of human-animal relations. The third part analyses Depraz’s four-stage structure of empathy and aims to determine the conditions and limits of access to animals as liminal subjects. Corporeality is considered as the most general layer; the accessibility of animal consciousness, the approach to their experience, the possibilities and limits of it are analyzed. Finally, it is concluded that the two positions can contribute to the understanding of the limits of anthropocentrism and its failures.

Straipsnyje analizuojamos 2 fenomenologinės prieigos prie gyvūnų gyvenimo antropocentrizmo kritikos kontekste. Pirmoje dalyje apžvelgiamas antropocentrizmo klausimas. Pradedant posthumanistine antropocentrizmo kaip žmogiškojo išskirtinumo ideologijos kritika siūloma fenomenologiniu požiūriu reflektuoti žmogaus antropocentriškumą kaip patirties sąlygą. Antroje dalyje apžvelgiama San Martíno ir Pintos prieiga, kuri, remdamasi Husserlio transcendentalinio ego analize Ideen II, atskleidžia žmonių ir gyvūnų tapatumą egotiškumo, kūniškumo ir prasmės konstitucijos aspektais. Jų pozicija labai svarbi antropocentrizmo kritikoje, tačiau laikoma nepakankama žmonių ir gyvūnų santykių įvairovei reflektuoti. Trečioje dalyje analizuojama Depraz pateikta keturių pakopų empatijos struktūra ir siekiama nustatyti, kokios yra ribinių subjektų – gyvūnų – prieinamumo sąlygos ir ribos. Išskiriamas kūniškumas kaip bendriausias sluoksnis, analizuojama gyvūnų sąmonių prieinamumo, jų patirties supratimo galimybės ir ribos. Galiausiai daroma išvada, kad šios dvi pozicijos gali prisidėti suprantant žmonių ir gyvūnų bendrumo ir skirtumo ribas bei tai, kiek gali būti apribotas antropocentrizmas.

This chapter aims to explore the characteristics of contemporary ecological self-awareness through a phenomenological hermeneutic approach and to answer the following questions: What motivates the emergence of ecological self-awareness, eco-conscious behavior, and their implied acts? What are the presuppositions of these approaches? This chapter follows the hypothesis that current environmental issues are not only a matter of our response to the physical changes of the planet, but also to the development of Western thought. The first part of the chapter explains what kind of break occurred during the transition from modernity to the Anthropocene. Modernity most radically realized the tendency of Western thought: nature and animals were reduced to resources. This was determined by the peculiar self-awareness of modernity in which human activity was grounded in reflexivity and control. The Anthropocene is a turning point in self-awareness. The human of modernity has defined itself as an exceptional being whose essence consists of spirit, reason, and the power to plan and control. In the Anthropocene, the opposite definitions are formed in terms of unpredictable consequences, material traces, waste, and pollution. This chapter analyzes the self-awareness of humanity as a geological force and as a species. The second part of the chapter focuses on theoretical debates that question the concept of the human. The criticism of the anthropological difference presents an image of a de-centered human. The final part focuses on the experience of nature’s vulnerability. Using Edward Casey’s description of experiencing damaged nature, it is explained why the experience of nature’s vulnerability is one of the most significant motives and what kind of responsibility arises in the experience. The peculiar self-awareness of the Anthropocene epoch – in which the human is a culprit – is marked, which points not to humanity’s indifference as a geological force, but to the search for a suitable relationship with the environment and with oneself.

The thematization of the phenomenological structure of dialogue is presented in the article. It starts with the critique of dialogue as a binomial relation. Based on Husserl’s, Waldenfels’ and Mickunas’ analyses of intentional consciousness and intersubjectivity, the author shows that there is a third linking member – subject matter – in every I–Thou binomial relationship. It is the subject matter which the conceptions of Buber and Levinas try to eliminate as a non-dialogical aspect. The aim of this critical research is not to proceed to the analysis of dialogue as mutual understanding or rational communication, but to grope those planes of the subject matter which are closest to dialogical relationship. The author elucidates the specific character of percepting Thou in dialogical relationship. The significance of the Other’s presence in a dialogue and the constitution of polycentric space are investigated. The structure of addressing is described in the aspect of perception. It is also critically revised whether the problem of the cognition of the Other is significant for dialogue theory. The author is looking for the principles that enable the constitution of common sense. He considers that the main principle for the constitution of common sense is “the connection of fulfilment” (Erfüllungszusammenhang), which is disclosed on the ground of Husserl’s notion of filling the empty intentions (Erfüllung der leeren Intentionen). The self-perception in a dialogue is investigated in the aspect of the subject matter. Finally, the conclusion is drawn that the trinomial pattern of dialogue enables us to avoid the extreme reductions of a dialogue to a binomial relationship or rational communication and to present the universal structure of the dialogue in the aspect of a corporeal face-to-face contact and perception.

Straipsnyje nagrinëjamas dialogo problemos apmàstymo procesas E. Levino filosofijoje. Rekonstruojama dialogo samprata, susiformavusi Vakarø tradicijoje, kuri dialogà tapatina su komunikacija ir yragrindþiama dalykine etika. Daugiausia dëmesio skiriama fenomenologijos kritikai, labiausiai iðryðkinanèiai Levino nuostatas. Levino pozicija pirmiausia nagrinëjama kaip opozicija fenomenologijai, pabrëþianti santykio ir sakymo momentus, kurie yra „anapus patirties“ ir remiasi „suþlugusiu intencionalumu“. Tiriama, kokiu bûdu E. Husserlio fenomenologijoje keliamas klausimas apie kità ir kaip Husserlioáþvalgomis grindþiamas trinaris dialogo modelis: að, kitas ir dalykas bendro pasaulio kontekste. Nagrinëjama, kaip tokia dialogo struktûra veikia dalykinæ etikà, realizuojamà sokratiðkame dialoge, aptartame H.-G. Gadamerio darbuose. Levino þingsnis fiksuojamas kaip perëjimas nuo komunikacijos –susikalbëjimo prie etinio santykio. Nagrinëjama, kaip toká perëjimà sàlygoja atpaþástama prievarta,uþslëpta paþintiniame-dalykiniame dialoge. Levino iðryðkinta sakymo plotmë trakuojama kaip dialogas prieð dialogà, t. y. kaip sluoksnis, liekantis neapèiuoptas, kol dialogo problema sprendþiama tikperduodamos reikðmës lygmenyje. Sakymo plotmë traktuojama kaip artimo artumas, leidþiantis perduoti reikðmæ. Pabaigoje keliamas klausimas, kaip sakymo matmens iðryðkinimas gali bûti vël integruotas á dialogo apraðymà. Daroma iðvada, kad Levino kritikuojama patirties samprata paties Levinodëka prasipleèia, dialogo apraðymas átraukia ir patirties lûþius, o kartu pats dialogo esmës klausimasiðsiskaido á dialogø daugybës klausimà.Pagrindiniai þodþiai: Levinas, dialogas, komunikacija, intencionalumas, patirtis

Straipsnyje keliamas klausimas, kokį vaidmenį filosofų diskursuose atlieka gyvūnas. Pastebima, kad paprastai filosofai neturi nei kompetencijos, nei intencijų tirti gyvūnus zoologijos lygmeniu. Tačiau gyvūnas atlieka svarbią funkciją apibrėžiant žmogų ir sprendžiant tikrovės bei pasaulio problemas. Pasirinkti filosofai parodo vis kitą aspektą. Nietzsche’s gyvulys nurodo į žmogaus akimirkos, laiko ir istoriškumo savitumą. Heideggeriui gyvūnas nurodo į kalbos ir logos fundamentalumą pasaulio konstitucijoje. Derrida katės žvilgsnis kvestionuoja kultūroje nusistovėjusį antropologinį skirtumą, bet vėl sugrąžina jį klausimo forma. Galiausiai teigiama, kad šių filosofų diskursuose gyvūnas svarbus ne tuo, kad apibrėžia žmogų kaip turintį kažką daugiau ir kokybiškai skirtinga – protas, mąstymas, kalba, gėda ir t. t. Gyvūnas pasirodo kaip išcentruojantis kitas, kurio akivaizdoje žmogus aptinka save kaip esantį logos terpėje, o taip gali geriau suvokti, kas yra jo pasaulis ir jis pats.

Straipsnyje keliamas klausimas, kodël postmodernûs màstytojai redukuoja filosofiná-paþintiná dialogàá galiø kovà ir efektø þaismà, taip panaikindami filosofijai reikðmingà skirtumà tarp Sokrato ir sofisto.Laikantis nuostatos, kad ðio skirtumo iðlaikymas ir toliau reikðmingas filosofijai, siekiama kritiðkai ávertinti, kokius padarinius filosofiniam dialogui turi minëto skirtumo panaikinimas, ir ieðkoma argumentø, leidþianèiø ðá skirtumà legitimuoti. Nietzsche’i atskleidus tiesos siekimà kaip valios galiai apraiðkà, atsiveria galimybë redukuotifilosofiná dialogà á valiø galiai kovà. G. Deleuze‘ui iðryðkinus fenomenø simuliakriná pobûdá, atsiveriagalimybë redukuoti filosofiná dialogà á simuliacijos efektø þaismà. Valia galiai ir simuliacija pasirodokaip gilesnë ir dialogà valdanti plotmë. Taèiau ar filosofinis dialogas dar lieka filosofiniu? Postmodernistinëms pozicijoms bûdinga totalizuoti interpretacijà ir simuliacijà. Reikia gráþti prie dalykø duoties klausimo. Tai, kad patirèiai duotos tik interpretacijos, dar nereiðkia, kad interpretacijos gali atsisakyti dalykiðkumo. Remiantis H. G. Gadameriu ir G. Figaliu, galima skirti asimiliacijà ir interpretacijà.Pirmosios principas yra valia galiai, ji yra pasaulio ávaldymas ir uþvaldymas. Antroji, nors ir giminingaasimiliacijai, iðlaiko distancijà ir skirtumà dalyko atþvilgiu ir dël kritinës refleksijos gali iðlaikyti savoreferentinæ funkcijà.
