The rapid development of artificial intelligence, online surveillance technologies, and big data deployment has fundamentally changed the landscape upon which protest, and resistance occur, so these are burgeoning areas of research that philosophers need to be aware of in the coming years. My research is the first in philosophy to theorize these rising technological innovations alongside campaigns of counter-insurgency. Huey Newton’s theory of empire has guided my research toward the identification of how technology (like artificial intelligence, algorithms, cybernetics, Big Data, predictive modeling, Drones and other Semi-Autonomous/Lethal Weapons Systems) is operationally adapted to facilitate counterinsurgency by the US and other western states globally to manage and regulate racialized populations to contribute towards a greater understanding of the role of the humanist sciences in dehumanization, the Black social condition writ large and the broader impact of technology on society.
