Math anxiety (MA) has been suggested to decrease the math performance of students. However, it remains unclear what factors moderate this relationship. The purpose of this study was to analyze the link between MA and math performance. Studies that explored the relationship between MA and math performance, conducted from 2000 to 2019 (84 samples, N = 8680), were identified and statistically integrated with a meta-analysis method. The results indicated a robust negative correlation between MA and …Read more

Development of the short Creative Expression Interest Scale based on item response theory
with Peng Juan Zhao, Xu Liang Gao, and Zhao Sheng Luo
    Frontiers in Psychology 13. 2022.
This study develops a short Creative Expression Interest Scale among Chinese freshmen based on the perspective of item response theory. Nine hundred fifty-nine valid Chinese freshmen participated in the Creative Expression Interest survey. Researchers applied the initial data for unidimensionality, item fit, discrimination parameter, and differential item functioning to obtain a short CEIS. The results show that the Short CEIS meets the psychometric requirements of the IRT. Pearson correlation c…Read more

Predicting Risk Propensity Through Player Behavior in DOTA 2: A Cross-Sectional Study
with Sihua Lyu, Yichuan Zhang, Wenwen Chen, Haiyan Zhou, and Tingshao Zhu
    Frontiers in Psychology 13. 2022.
As traditional methods such as questionnaires for measuring risk propensity are not applicable in some scenarios, a nonintrusive method that could automatically identify individuals' risk propensity could be valuable. This study utilized Defense of the Ancients 2 single match data and historical statistics to train predictive models to identify risk propensity by machine learning methods. Self-reported risk propensity scores from 218 DOTA 2 players were paired with their behavioral metrics. The …Read more

Expression of S-adenosylmethionine Hydrolase in Tissues Synthesizing Secondary Cell Walls Alters Specific Methylated Cell Wall Fractions and Improves Biomass Digestibility
    with A. Eudes, N. Sathitsuksanoh, E. E. K. Baidoo, J. Lao, G. Wang, S. Yogiswara, T. S. Lee, S. Singh, J. C. Mortimer, J. D. Keasling, B. A. Simmons, and D. Loqué
Plant biomass is a large source of fermentable sugars for the synthesis of bioproducts using engineered microbes. These sugars are stored as cell wall polymers, mainly cellulose and hemicellulose, and are embedded with lignin, which makes their enzymatic hydrolysis challenging. One of the strategies to reduce cell wall recalcitrance is the modification of lignin content and composition. Lignin is a phenolic polymer of methylated aromatic alcohols and its synthesis in tissues developing secondary…Read more
