I’m currently working on a project with ANU’s Vice President (First Nations) and a group of academics from across the university, along with a partner Indigenous organization, the Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundation Limited (NYFL) in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. My research is in three areas. Firstly, I’m examining what shape agreements between Indigenous communities and resource companies need to take if they’re to promote Indigenous peoples’ rights and interests. Secondly, I'm examining issues to do with consent in the context of such agreements. Thirdly, I'm working with NYFL on projects that support their data sovereignty programme and develop new frameworks for evaluating social and environmental outcomes based on local Indigenous people's values.
