I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Philosophy at Marquette University, with a focus on Medieval Philosophy, particularly Classical Philosophy in the Lands of Islam, and the History of Ethics and Political Philosophy.
My dissertation, entitled “Al-Fārābī, Metaphysics, and the Construction of Social Knowledge: Is Deception Warranted if it leads to Happiness?”, focuses on al-Fārābī’s political philosophy, specifically his use of political deception, and the metaphysical commitments al-Fārābī adopts which allow him to justify the use of political deception.
