Emma Velez is an Assistant Professor of Gender & Women's Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Her research areas are social and political philosophy, feminist philosophy (esp. Latinx feminisms), critical philosophy of race, and critical theory.

Utilizing the work of U.S. Latinx thinkers, her work demonstrates the contributions that decolonial feminisms make to re-thinking questions of identity, cross-cultural communication, and ethicopolitical strategies for decolonization.
