My research primarily focuses on early modern philosophy, and especially the philosophy of George Berkeley. In an early modern context, I am interested in issues such as the nature of ideas, the relationship between representation and resemblance, and what it means for a thing to be 'real' in various philosophical systems (including 'materialism' and 'idealism'). One specific issue I have focused on is tracing the lineage of anti-representationalist thought amongst thinkers such as John Sergeant, George Berkeley, and Thomas Reid. I also enjoy thinking about historical methodology and how we go about doing history of philosophy.
