I am an independent philosophy scholar and tutor. My doctorate at the University of Oxford, where I was a postdoctoral tutor, was on the relation between meaning and imagination. This remains my principle research interest which focuses on three philosophers: Wittgenstein and the Kantian role of imagination in his discussions of rule-following, meaning and representation; Bernard Williams, and the role of the imagination in his account of rational practical deliberation, agency and the meaningful life; Roger Scruton, and the role of imagination in his aesthetics and, in particular, his philosophy of architecture.
