Early and modern scholars have deliberated extensively on the principle of wasaṭiyyah with its various interpretations. Yet, the term has not been perceived through the Sharī‘ah point of view, and there is no study which directly relates it with the objectives of the Sharī‘ah. This paper, therefore, examines the necessity of wasaṭiyyah from the perspective of the Sharī‘ah. It aims at highlighting the principle of wasaṭiyyah as one of the objectives of Sharī‘ah. In doing so, the Qur’ānic and prophetic texts dealing with the principle of wasaṭiyyah along with the views of early and modern scholars are examined. In addition, this paper also examines some approaches of wasaṭiyyah by Muslim reformists. They demonstrated the different manifestations of wasaṭiyyah and its signifi cance in accordance with the needs and circumstances of the society. Based on the signifi cance of wasaṭiyyah, this paper concludes that it can be considered as one of the fundamental principles of the Sharī‘ah. In other words, the principle of wasaṭiyyah should be acknowledged as a higher objective of the Sharī‘ah which must be obtained at both the individual as well as the collective level.

The study investigated the impact of parental income on students' academic performance in secondary schools in Kitswamba and Rugendabara-Kikongo town councils in Kasese District. A cross-sectional research design was used, with data collected from 286 students and five head teachers. The findings showed that family income significantly influenced students' academic performance. The findings have implications for parents, teachers, policymakers, and administrators in the education sector, emphasizing the importance of parental income in determining academic success.

Choice experiment (CE) is a questionnaire based method that the accuracy of research questionnaire determines the validity of the research outcomes. Attribute selection has a prime importance in every CE studies. If respondents do not understand or do not have preference for a certain attribute, the attribute non-attendance problem might happen that biases overall results of the research. Qualitative approaches such as literature review, focus group discussion, and in depth discussion commonly applied in CE researches. However, especially in the developing countries context where ethnical and cultural diversity is a challenge in conducting survey based questionnaires, qualitative methods are not sufficient in selecting attributes. Present study investigates the application of relative importance index (RII) in respondents¡¯ preference for attributes in a modal shift study in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The 5 point Likert scale questions were employed to enhance respondents¡¯ preferences for initial 24 selected attributes. The results of this study showed that from 24 pre-selected attributes, only 18 of them had RII>0.5 and could be included in the final CE design. The results of this study could help researchers to control for unobserved problems in selecting the attributes which could not be discovered through qualitative approaches.

Malaysia, in the Malaysia Urban Forum 2019 aims torealize the vision of the World Urban Forum 2018 theme of ‘Cities2030, Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda’ that is in line withSustainable Development Goals. The introduction of the MalaysianStandard started in 1990 but not acknowledged until the establishment of thePersons with Disabilities Act in 2008 and gazetted in the Uniform Building By-Laws amendments despite the slow pace of accessibility awarenessin urban development and implementation. The methodology compares theestablishment of notable Inclusive and Accessible Cities with their planningstrategies of implementing Universal Design. Findings and results willdetermine inclusive city’s strategies from each case study documented anddevice a framework of projection for cities’ inclusivity. Conclusively, this studywould determine the anticipation of Malaysian urban cities to be Inclusive andAccessible in 2030 by strategising action plans and a framework for ten year planning.
