Raymond Noble is Honorary Professor at the Institute for Women’s Health, University College London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and chartered biologist, writing extensively on biological theory and philosophy, and on how organisms sense and engage purposively in their environment, and act as agents in evolutionary change. With his brother Denis, he proposed that living systems creatively harness stochasticity at all levels of organisation, from cell to society, to produce purposeful change.
