Research in Contemporary World Literature (RCWL) is a quarterly, double-blind, peer-reviewed, open-access journal committed to advancing scholarship in modern and contemporary literature. Established in 1994 as the Journal of Foreign Languages and later renamed to reflect its current scope, RCWL has evolved into a distinguished international platform for critical engagement with literary production across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts.
The journal exclusively considers original articles and critical reviews that analyze literary texts and movements emerging after 1945. Submissions focusing on literature prior to this period fall outside its scope and will not be considered.
RCWL prioritizes contributions that adopt comparative or interdisciplinary approaches and engage substantively with contemporary critical paradigms—including, but not limited to, postcolonialism, posthumanism, African literature, feminist theory, disability studies, ecocriticism, migration studies, and examinations of underrepresented or marginalized voices. The journal welcomes scholarship that challenges conventional frameworks and fosters theoretical or methodological innovation in the study of global contemporary literature.
Committed to international academic standards, RCWL upholds a rigorous editorial and ethical review process in alignment with high-impact scholarly publishing. It affirms the enduring significance of literature as a critical humanistic discipline and actively resists the erosion of scholarly integrity in the face of pseudo-academic trends. Submissions must demonstrate conceptual precision, theoretical sophistication, and a distinctive authorial voice.
RCWL welcomes contributions from scholars worldwide and seeks to facilitate intercultural dialogue through literature and critical theory.
