Born in the thriving bush metropolis of Broken Hill in western New South Wales, and having thwarted all attempts at education there and on the sandy beaches of Perth, I was in exile in North America for most of the past 30 years, creeping slowly but surely west-northwest during that time, my own version of continental drift.
