Roberto Rozenberg

I am a molecular geneticist and evolutionary biologist with a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of São Paulo and postdoctoral training in Biochemistry. I served as Professor of Genetics and Human Evolution at the Institute of Biosciences, University of São Paulo (2017–2024). My work bridges molecular genetics and philosophy of biology, integrating research in Medical Genetics (including Tay–Sachs and Gaucher diseases, molecular diagnostics, and experimental evolution) with conceptual investigations into human evolution, Darwin and the Modern Synthesis, and gene-centered explanations. I have a particular interest in the philosophical dimensions of evolutionary theory, including the role of metaphor in science and the work of Mary Midgley. I am affiliated with NAP EDEVO DARWIN (Museum of Zoology, USP), serve on the Scientific Committee of the 2025 Meeting on History and Philosophy of Biology (ABFHiB), and currently coordinate genetic counseling activities within the Genomas SUS program at the Center for Human Genome Studies (USP).
