Experimental study of phantom colours in a colour blind synaesthete
    with M. Hochel, E. G. Milan, A. González, F. Tornay, K. McKenney, J. L. Mata Martín, Rodriguez Artacho, E. Domínguez García, and J. Vila
    Journal of Consciousness Studies 14 (4): 75-95. 2007.
Synaesthesia is a condition in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another, as when the hearing of a sound produces photisms, i.e. mental percepts of colours. R is a 20 year old colour blind subject who, in addition to the relatively common grapheme-colour synaesthesia, presents a rarely reported cross modal perception in which a variety of visual stimuli elicit aura-like percepts of colour. In R, photisms seem to be closely related to the affective valence of stimuli and typic…Read more

Endogenous circadian regulation of carbon dioxide exchange in terrestrial ecosystems
    with V. R. de Dios, M. L. Goulden, K. Ogle, A. D. Richardson, D. Y. Hollinger, E. A. Davidson, J. G. Alday, G. A. Barron-Gafford, A. Carrara, A. S. Kowalski, W. C. Oechel, B. R. Reverter, R. L. Scott, R. K. Varner, and J. M. Moreno
It is often assumed that daytime patterns of ecosystem carbon assimilation are mostly driven by direct physiological responses to exogenous environmental cues. Under limited environmental variability, little variation in carbon assimilation should thus be expected unless endogenous plant controls on carbon assimilation, which regulate photosynthesis in time, are active. We evaluated this assumption with eddy flux data, and we selected periods when net ecosystem exchange was decoupled from enviro…Read more

The distinctive security features of the Spanish electronic national identity card, known as Documento Nacional de Identidad electrónico, allow us to propose the usage of this cryptographic smart card in an authentication framework that can be used during the registration and login phases of internet services where the validation of the user’s age and real identity are key elements, as it is the case for example of the so-called social networks. Using this mechanism with NFC-capable devices, the…Read more

Historical Experience as a Mode of Comprehension
Journal of the Philosophy of History 13 (1): 86-106. 2019.
_ Source: _Page Count 21 In the past two and a half decades, Frank Ankersmit has developed a complex notion of historical experience. Despite its many virtues it has at least one major difficulty: it implies a sharp separation between experience and language. This essay aims to bridge this gap, while preserving the positive aspects of Ankersmit’s theory. To do this, I will first present the ontological and epistemological implications of Ankersmit’s notion of historical experience. Next, I will …Read more
