Samuel C. Rickless

My work focuses mostly on topics and figures in early modern philosophy (particularly Locke, Astell, Berkeley, Chapone, Hume, and Shepherd--though I have also published on Descartes, Leibniz, and Kant), ancient philosophy (particularly Plato), ethics, and law. I've authored three books: Plato's Forms in Transition (CUP 2007), Berkeley's Argument for Idealism (OUP 2013) and Locke (Wiley-Blackwell 2014); and I've co-edited three collections of articles: The Ethics of War: Essays, OUP 2017 (with Saba Bazargan-Forward), The Ethics and Law of Omissions, OUP 2017 (with Dana Kay Nelkin), and The Oxford Handbook of Berkeley, OUP 2022.
