This book develops a critical understanding of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy and practice in the context of contemporary challenges and engages with some of his key work and ideas. It highlights the relevance of Gandhi's legacy in the quest towards peace-building, equity and global justice. The volume examines diverse facets of Gandhi's holistic view of human life - social, economic and political - for the creation of a just society. Bringing together expert analyses and reflections, the chapters here emphasise the philosophical and practical urgency of Gandhi's thought and action. They explore the significance of his concepts of truth and nonviolence to address moral, spiritual and ethical issues, growing intolerance, conflict and violence, poverty and hunger, and environmental crisis for the present world. So far, most ethical consumerism research has been contained within Western countries, thus limiting our understanding of the concept in emerging markets. Given the call for extending empirical-based knowledge for a better understanding of peculiarities, dynamics and country-level variations (i.e. social, cultural) in the context of ethical consumerism in emerging markets, this research cross-examines the interactive nature of individual- and country-level predictors of ethical consumerism in emerging and developed markets, employing a multilevel approach. At the individual level, we posit that ethical consumerism is motivated by social and cultural capital. In contrast, at the contextual level, we choose country-level affluence as an influential factor that might impact the relationship between socio-cultural capital and ethical consumerism. The study uses the International Social Survey Programme’s (ISSP) 2014 citizenship module data set (including 34 countries) for investigating individual-level predictors (of social and cultural capital). The GDP per capita data from the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Economic Outlook database was used to examine the cross-level interactions between individual-level predictors and country-level affluence. The findings suggest that social and cultural capitals positively influence ethical consumerism in emerging and developed markets. Further, country-level affluence moderates the relationship between socio-cultural capital and ethical consumerism for both markets. However, cultural capital proved to be a stronger predictor of ethical consumerism as country-level affluence increases. The research findings highlight meaningful cross-country-level interactions that help further understand the basis of ethical consumerism from a global perspective.

This paper examines the mounting threats to sustainability and resilience of international tourist destinations resulting from climate change and the increasing frequency of wildfires. The primary focus of this investigation is examining environmental risks and stability of tourist systems while focusing on ecological, economic, and social aspects. Researchers measured industry weaknesses and response plans through qualitative research involving extensive field investigations in wilderness wildfire-prone zones. The researcher collects secondary data and examines case studies that undergo thematic analysis to uncover impact and resistance patterns. Research demonstrates that wildfires cause severe damage to fundamental infrastructure combined with disturbances that limit visitor access and diminish tourism attractions. The adaptation solutions for tourism development include service diversification, early warning systems, and sustainable land management programs involving the community. Investigative research provides touristic establishments with means to enhance their environmental adaptation abilities and deepen their knowledge of climate conditions as regards travel. The research helps expand sustainability dialogues about tourism development in stressful climates by showing management challenges and adaptable solutions that guide climate resilience implementation for politicians, planners, and tourism operators during planning processes. Protective measures for tourist resources and sustainability advancements become possible through preventive measures established by this system.
