In diesem Beitrag möchte ich die These vertreten, dass sich in Heideggers Denken eine Verschiebung von einer Selbst-Zentrierung hin zu einer Transzendierung des Selbst Ausdruck verleiht, die vom Pathos des Existenzphilosophen abrückt und die Konturen einer Lebenskunst durchscheinen lässt, die jedoch nicht zum Durchbruch gelangt. Diese These werde ich in drei Schritten entfalten. Zunächst werde ich die Haltung des existenzphilosophischen Pathos des eigentlichen Selbstseinkönnens anhand von Heideggers Phänomenologie der Langeweile nachzeichnen. In einem zweiten Schritt soll dieses konfrontiert werden mit dem Konzept der Gelassenheit, wie es Heidegger ab den 1940er Jahren entwickelt; und abschließend soll dieses heideggersche Konzept der Gelassenheit dem Entwurf einer Zen-buddhistisch fundierten Lebenskunst gegenübergestellt werden, um zu zeigen, dass Heideggers späte Philosophie zwar beachtliche Affinitäten zu einem solchen Denken aufweist, jedoch der Durchbruch zu einer Verbindung von Erschlossenheit und Praxis im Sinne einer Lebenskunst letztlich nicht erfolgt.

Bei unvoreingenommener Lektüre von Sören Kierkegaards Entweder – Oder muß man zu der Überzeugung gelangen, daß der Leser es hier nicht mit einer philosophischen Abhandlung zu tun hat, sondern mit einem literarischen Text. Die vorliegende Untersuchung fragt danach, was passiert, wenn man die Fiktionalität des Textes ernst nimmt und Entweder – Oder so liest, daß man in gleichem Maße der Form wie dem Inhalt Beachtung schenkt, oder, anders ausgedrückt, daß man in der formalen Gestaltung einen Teil des Gehaltes erblickt, einen Teil der Bedeutung des Texts. Die Gegenüberstellung mit dem Mann ohne Eigenschaften läßt deutlich werden, daß die Wahl der Form des literarischen Texts statt der Form klassischer philosophischer Abhandlung als eine philosophische Wahl begriffen werden kann, begründet in Reflexionen über Möglichkeiten und Grenzen von Kommunikation. Beide Texte befassen sich mit der Frage nach menschlichen „Existenzmöglichkeiten“; und der Vergleich läßt deutlich werden, daß das Medium der Fiktion, des literarischen Textes in herausragender Weise geeignet ist zu veranschaulichen, was es bedeutet, über Möglichkeiten zu verfügen.

Sowohl bei Martin Heidegger als auch bei Søren Kierkegaard ist Langeweile kein triviales Phänomen, sondern erhält metaphysische Verweisfunktion, die auf die Möglichkeit eines eigentlichen Seinkönnens verweist. Dabei rückt die metaphysische Langeweile in beiden Fällen in den Horizont eines Erkenntnisbemühens, das um die Kontingenz des eigenen Standpunktes weiss. Beide Autoren bemühen sich in je eigener Weise dieser Konstellation gerecht zu werden, die sich in der impliziten oder expliziten Problematisierung der sprachlichen Vermittlung niederschlägt. Während dies bei Heidegger im Rückgriff auf das Konzept der eigentlichen Rede geschieht, bemüht sich Kierkegaard, mit einem literarisch-ironischen Verfahren die begrenzte Tragweite philosophisch-existentieller Erkenntnis gegenwärtig zu halten.

Depuis l'Antiquite, la philosophie occidentale tente de determiner si la morale peut et doit etre ancree dans une constellation theiste. Tenter de repondre a cette question constitue un defi d'autant plus grand dans un monde globalise, au sein duquel le theisme est non seulement remis en question par la tradition occidentale des Lumieres, mais aussi par des modeles de pensee qui promeuvent une maniere fondamentalement differente de se rapporter a la realite. Les reflexions proposees dans ce volume sur Dieu et la morale invitent a examiner les difficultes suscitees par l'ancrage theiste de la morale et a interroger la contingence du cadre reflexif au sein duquel ces difficultes se deploient.

This article focuses on Kierkegaard's two-fold use of the categories of modality »possibility« and »reality« in his philosophy of existence. The difference between possibility and reality in the works of Kierkegaard is commonly referred to as to the difference between »Denken« and »Sein«, between »Thought« and »Being«. However Either/Or reveals that this dichotomy does only cover one aspect of their use. The concept of "life" has always been part of the basic philosophical topoi. In Greek antiquity, the question of what constitutes a "good" or "successful" life was regarded as a fundamental question of philosophy. As a result, early philosophers engaged in practice-oriented philosophizing which regarded philosophy as a form of life. In Modern philosophy, the term "life" became a technical term in different philosophical traditions such as the philosophy of life, philosophy of existence, and phenomenology. This volume brings together contributions in German and French that explore the concept of "life" historically and systematically, focusing on metaphysical, anthropological, and ethical issues.

The paper develops the claim that in The Sickness unto Death, Kierkegaard conceptualizes a demoralized understanding of sin. Rather than interpreting sin as moral guilt, he proposes a concept of sin that takes the form of alienation. The claim is unfolded in a three-step argumentation: First, we identify crucial hermeneutical issues and stress the role of the pseudonyms within Kierkegaard’s writings. Second, we offer a detailed analysis of the theory of self-consciousness developed by Anti-Climacus. Finally, using the romantic interpretation of Kierkegaard as a foundation, we demonstrate how Anti-Climacus conceptualizes sin as alienation

Spiritlessness. Reflections on the topicality of Søren Kierkegaard’s construction of the self in the field of tension between immanence and transcendence: One of the most suggestive and provocative concepts developed by the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard is the concept of “spiritlessness”. Spiritlessness is conceived of as a state of mind which cuts out transcendent possibilities at the benefice of reduced immanent probabilities and thus hinders the individual to become a true Self. The present paper asks for the topicality of Kierkegaard’s dialectics of “spirit” and “spiritlessness” for the constitution of the Self in the 21st cntury.

The advent of Modernity was accompanied by a radical criticism of traditional metaphysics. In particular since the 20th century, rationality is predominantly conceived of as positivistic and scientistic, reducing reality to what is positively knowable. The price to pay is the cutting out of any kind of phenomenon of negativity. The present volume explicitly explores the philosophical and epistemological potential of negativity. The contributions brought together in this book tackle the question of negativity from historical as well as from systematical perspectives. Since the late 18th century, philosophy has suffered from a «crisis of identity» and other disciplines have menaced philosophy on her own territory. Literature, in particular, deals increasingly with genuinely philosophical questions. There seems to be a close interconnection between the crisis of metaphysics and the epistemological revalorisation of the Arts, particularly of literature. Literature, one might think, is defying philosophy’s competency on issues of knowledge and meaning. If a closer look reveals that, indeed, new literary styles of writing such as Friedrich Schlegel’s or Søren Kierkegaard’s fi nd their roots in the crisis of philosophy, it simultaneously reveals that this does not necessarily mean that one has to speak of a «rivalry» between philosophy and literature. Rather one could ask if philosophy, confronted with the problem of the «ineffable», would not have to evolve into literature in order to remain philosophy
