Sebastian Saviano

Sebastian Saviano is an independent scholar working in metaethics and moral epistemology, with particular interests in moral progress, the history of moral concepts, and the methodological discipline of distinguishing what historical evidence can establish from what normative argument is asked to defend. His current research concerns the non-identity of two movements often run together in moral history: the deepening of protected harm and the widening of who is protected. Related work, written for a broader readership, examines institutional trust, the structure of civic legitimacy, and the conditions under which authority retains its hold — including the trade volumes The Allegiance Paradox (2025) and Legitimate Distrust (2026), and forthcoming work on power and AI. The common question across both registers is what counts as a binding moral or institutional claim, and what survives genealogical critique.
