Relativistic models of an expanding universe followed by contraction, or a big bang followed by a big crunch, were first proposed by A. Friedmann in 1922 and nine years later by A. Einstein. In the period ca. 1922–1960, the more speculative idea of a large and possibly infinite number of cycles was discussed by R. Tolman in particular. To some cosmologists, the idea was philosophically appealing because it seemed to justify an eternal yet dynamic universe without an absolute beginning in time. During the 1950s models of this kind, sometimes known as Phoenix models, were investigated by a few cosmologists of whom the most important were A. Dauvillier, W. Bonnor, and H. Zanstra.

Desde los inicios del filosofar y de las ciencias, el ejercicio de controvertir ha estado presente para dinamizar la emergencia de ideas, el reconocimiento de hechos y la formulación de métodos que los seres humanos han articulado con el propósito de entender las realidades que los rodean. Sin embargo, el estudio sistemático del desacuerdo en las ciencias como problema en sí mismo es de muy reciente data. Incluso la dimensión histórica de las controversias fue eclipsada por otras cuestiones aparentemente más relevantes en los procesos de transformación que ha tenido la filosofía de la ciencia en los últimos 150 años.

In der Tradition der ökologischen Marxlektüre bietet dieses Buch eine philosophische Reflexion der ökologischen Krise auf Basis der von Karl Marx entworfenen Theorie der modernen, kapitalistischen Gesellschaft. Dabei werden die folgenden Fragestellungen verfolgt: Was ist das Wesen der ökologischen Krise? Was ist die Ursache oder was sind die Ursachen der ökologischen Krise? Wie kann die ökologische Krise gelöst werden? Kann mittels der marxschen Theorie eine Kritik und Weiterentwicklung von nicht-marxistischen Theorien entfaltet werden, die sich auf die ökologische Krise beziehen? Und wenn ja, was ist der Gehalt dieser Kritik und Weiterentwicklung? Zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen wird im ersten Schritt die von Marx 1857/58 in den „Grundrissen" entwickelte Theorie textnah und systematisch rekonstruiert. Im zweiten Schritt werden Theorien aus Wirtschaftswissenschaft und Naturethik dargestellt und in einen argumentativen Zusammenhang mit der marxschen Theorie gesetzt. Aufgrund dieses fachübergreifenden Charakters richtet sich das Buch nicht nur an Philosoph/-innen, sondern auch an Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftler/-innen sowie an Personen mit Interesse an Umweltschutz, Nachhaltigkeit und Ökologie.

For decades, the question of whether dialectics applies to nature has been a hotly debated topic in the Marxian literature. A number of authors have claimed that the Marxist outlook on nature and natural sciences has been for-mulated by Engels alone. According to this view, Marx, unlike Engels, was concerned not with trans-historical laws governing the universe but with some particular laws of society. This anti-Engels camp, so to speak, mainly tended to draw bold lines between Marx and Engels, and charged Engels with dis-torting Marxʼs original ideas of dialectics by some kind of reductionism, sci-entism and positivism that might also end up in an obsolete idealism. Engels was „following Hegelʼs mistaken lead“ by extending „the method to apply also to nature“. However, dialectics was „limited ... to the realms of history and society“.2 Some others objected to this view, and characterized any at-tempt to sharply contrast Engels with Marx as concealed mysticism and idealism. For the pro-Engels camp, Engelsʼs conception of nature was „in full conformity“ with Marxʼs materialist philosophy.4 Dialectics of nature was „no invention of Engels“. On the contrary, „it was worked out in collaboration with Marx and had his full agreement

Partiendo de la crisis socioecológica del capitalismo, en este artículo realizamos una relectura marxista de dos potencialidades antiespecistas del principio de igual consideración de intereses y del principio de derecho a no ser cosa-propiedad. Para ello se retoma el capítulo dos de nuestra investigación El concepto de ‘Liberación animal’ en Peter Singer y Gary Francione visto desde un análisis marxista (2019). La primera potencialidad de los autores es una crítica ética a la reificación animal del capital y la segunda potencialidad consiste en una desnaturalización teórica y ética del esencialismo del especismo capitalista. Al final, se explica la materialidad relativa de estas potencias antiespecistas y se defiende que la idea de la liberación animal de los autores no es del todo una utopía sino una topología signada en el desarrollo asimétrico de las fuerzas productivas y las fuerzas destructivas del capitalismo en crisis y su posible colapso.
