I did my undergraduate degree in social anthropology at the Victoria University of Manchester, my MA at University College London (Kantian ethics), and my PhD at the University of Manchester (conceptual schemes, Davidson). I am especially interested in philosophical issues arising from social and cultural anthropology and have published a number of articles on this, especially on the anthropology of Dame Professor Marilyn Strathern: her paradox of the feminist fieldworker (anthropology requires her to interact with men during fieldwork, feminism requires her not to), her definition of anthropology at home, her relationship to social constructivism about concepts, and her ability to incorporate artefacts into her anthropology. My most cited article (to my knowledge) is "Anthropology in the context that produced it" and I hope to have written a classic article with "The Dualism of Conceptual Scheme and Undifferentiated Reality." I have written on a number of other areas of philosophy as well, often at the boundary between philosophy and social science. I have published in Abstracta, Meta, Organon F, Symposion, and more. In addition to this PhilPeople profile, I also have profiles at academia.edu and Researchgate. Apart from papers, I have made online summaries, the game Lario's Space Garden and had two short poems accepted for publication, here:
