Buddhism entered China in the first century CE and underwent profound transformation to become an organic component of the spiritual culture of the Chinese nation. By the Sui–Tang period (581 to 907), the Sinicization of Buddhism was essentially completed, manifested through three prominent characteristics: integration, diversity, and simplification. This article analyzes the content of this process across three historical stages, elucidates the core characteristics, and evaluates the extensive influence of Buddhism on customs and rituals, literature, art, and thought among the Chinese people. The findings demonstrate that Buddhism was not merely localized but also contributed significantly to shaping Chinese cultural identity, establishing a triadic balance among Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism.

This article reinterprets Charles Montesquieu’s conception of religion not as a peripheral theme in his political philosophy, but as a structural element of his broader reflection on power, law, and liberty. Against readings that portray Montesquieu either as a cautious defender of religious tradition or as an early secularist, this study argues that his position is better understood as a theory of moderation. For Montesquieu, religion is neither a transcendent truth to be imposed nor a mere illusion to be eliminated. It is a social force whose political significance depends on its relationship with institutions, customs, and forms of government. Through a close textual analysis of The Spirit of the Laws and Persian Letters, this article identifies three interconnected dimensions of Montesquieu’s understanding of religion: its moral function, its political ambivalence, and its susceptibility to historical variation. Religion can cultivate civic virtues, but it can also legitimize despotism. It can stabilize societies, but it can also radicalize them. These tensions are not anomalies in Montesquieu’s thought; they are its very foundation. By reconstructing Montesquieu’s reflections on religion within his broader theory of liberty, this article shows how his work anticipates contemporary debates on pluralism, secularism, and the limits of political authority. Rather than offering a doctrine of religious truth, Montesquieu provides a political anthropology of belief, one that remains strikingly relevant in an age marked by both religious resurgence and secular anxiety.

In the context of global climate change and the increasingly serious degradation of natural resources, the relationship between economic development and environmental protection has become a central issue of both economics and moral philosophy. In particular, the question of the responsibility of the current generation to future generations poses important challenges to the traditional approach of economics, which often prioritizes maximizing short-term benefits. This paper aims to analyze the concept of intergenerational justice through the lens of environmental economics, and to examine the role of ethical theories such as utilitarianism and Rawls's theory of justice in shaping sustainable development policies. The research method used in the paper is theoretical analysis combined with the synthesis of existing academic research. The paper argues that the use of economic tools such as discount rates in policy reviews can lead to an underestimation of long-term benefits, thereby diminishing the interests of future generations. At the same time, ethical theories provide an important basis for reshaping this approach in a more equitable direction. The results of the study suggest that economic development policies can only be considered rational if they fully integrate intergenerational moral factors. This requires a shift in both theoretical and practical thinking in policymaking, to ensure that economic growth does not occur at the expense of environmental degradation and intergenerational injustice.

In the recruitment process, manually selecting suitable candidates from curriculum vitae (CVs) for a job description (JD) is both time-consuming and expensive. Traditional keyword-based methods struggle to capture skill semantics, prompting the development of more advanced JD-CV matching systems. This paper aims to investigate and construct an ontology-based skills recommendation system, with objectives including creating a skills ontology and developing skills matching methods for JD-CV pairs. The objective of our approach is to enhance the accuracy and contextual relevance of recommendations by utilizing the proposed score. The proposed skills ontology and skills matching strategies are applied to a real dataset in Vietnam. The results of our study can automatically recommend a list of CVs for a given JD. Furthermore, the findings indicate that our proposed model surpasses comparative approaches by a margin of at least 1% to 5%. Overall, the study demonstrates the potential of utilizing ontology-based approaches to offer a practical solution for enhancing hiring practices.

A filosofia moral de Confúcio é uma das tradições éticas mais influentes da Ásia Oriental e continua a embasar discussões contemporâneas sobre desenvolvimento humano, harmonia social e responsabilidade moral. Embora tenham sido formulados durante um período de desordem política, seus ensinamentos apresentam um modelo sistemático de cultivo moral que vincula a virtude pessoal à ética relacional e à governança estável. Este artigo oferece um exame conciso do pensamento ético de Confúcio através da análise do conteúdo de textos clássicos e do diálogo com a produção acadêmica histórica, comparada e moderna. Virtudes centrais como ren (humanidade), li (ritual), yi (retidão), zhi (sabedoria) e xin (confiabilidade) são interpretadas como um arcabouço integrado para a formação do sujeito moral e para a construção de comunidades harmoniosas. O estudo também revisa os principais debates acadêmicos em ambas as tradições orientais e ocidentais. Apesar das limitações associadas à hierarquia e às normas patriarcais, a ética confucionista permanece relevante para questões contemporâneas em administração pública, liderança, educação cívica e cultura organizacional. A análise conclui que a ênfase de Confúcio na formação do caráter, na responsabilidade relacional e na governança humanizada oferece significativa orientação para enfrentar os desafios modernos, incluindo o declínio da confiança e a fragmentação dos valores morais compartilhados em um mundo cada vez mais globalizado.

Recent advances in machine learning and neuroscience, the abundances of sensors and emotion data have endowed machines with ability to detect, classify, and interact with human emotions. This study philosophize about affective computing devices by examining emotional artificial intelligence (AI) through the lens of affective artifacts, focusing on as personal AI assistants, work-related emotion trackers, and emotional AI toys and robots. Drawing from philosophical accounts on affective artifacts and empirical evidence on human-AI interaction, we argue how emotional AI technologies fulfill the criteria of being affective artifacts from the four key properties: underlying algorithmic complexity, artifactual nature, semi-agentive capabilities, and semi-interpersonal interactions. Furthermore, recognizing that the underlying algorithmic complexity renders these technologies easily manipulated for emotion-related tasks, we also analyze how these tools help us regulate emotions and influence self-perception, interconnecting with the maintenance and construction of our sense of self and identity, blurring the lines between the infosphere and lived experience.

While prior research shows that corruption sands the wheel of firms’ risk-taking, this paper argues that the institutional environment in Vietnam may make local corruption grease the wheel of corporate risk-taking. Using a dataset of 7341 observations from 555 firms listed during the period 2008–2022, we document that firms headquartered in higher corruption provinces have higher incentives to take risks. Moreover, the association between local corruption and corporate risk-taking is weaker in state-owned and financially unconstrained firms.

While generative AI has been embraced as a powerful tool for research, its integration into academic workflows has paradoxically undermined productivity in several ways. This essay explores four key challenges: secondary source of anxiety, where overreliance on AI-generated summaries fosters doubt about source credibility and scholarly rigor; operational inefficiency, as AI often generates redundant or misleading outputs that necessitate extensive verification; the hidden labor of AI integration, requiring researchers to develop new skills and oversight mechanisms to manage AI-driven processes; and ethical ambiguity, as evolving AI capabilities blur the boundaries of authenticity, originality, and responsible scholarship. These issues are further compounded by diverging institutional and cultural perspectives on what constitutes legitimate intellectual contribution. As AI continues to evolve, so too must the research communities’ strategies for its responsible use—ensuring it functions as a tool for discovery rather than a bottleneck of informational chaos that stifles innovation.

Sự thâm nhập của trí tuệ nhân tạo (AI) tạo sinh vào ngành báo chí đã tạo nên sự thay đổi về xu hướng tiêu thụ và sản xuất thông tin. Cụ thể, có năm thay đổi trong xu hướng hành vi tiêu thụ và sản xuất thông tin như sau: việc tạo ra nội dung trở nên dễ dàng và đa dạng hơn; AI tạo sinh có thể là tiếp điểm mới của con người đối với dòng chảy của tin tức; ranh giới mờ giữa người tiêu thụ thông tin và người sản xuất thông tin; sự thuận tiện, dễ dàng trong việc tạo ra giá trị gia tăng cho các nội dung; sụ thay đổi quá trình sáng tạo và thậm chí là định nghĩa về sự sáng tạo trong nghề báo chí. Từ năm thay đổi trong hành vi trên, những ảnh hưởng lên kinh tế báo chí của AI tạo sinh đã được phân tích. Các phân tích chạm tới cả mặt tích cực của AI tạo sinh trong việc giảm chi phí và tăng giá trị của nội dung tin tức, cũng như những vấn đề đáng lo ngại đối với việc giảm doanh thu của báo chí: vấn đề tìm kiếm không nhấp chuột, bản quyền, đối tượng tiếp cận thông tin, kiểm soát chất lượng và nguồn tin. Những vấn đề trên cho thấy sự quan trọng trong việc sử dụng AI tạo sinh một cách có trách nhiệm xã hội và điều này đặt ra những câu hỏi đáng suy nghĩ cho toàn xã hội.

Bài viết này giới thiệu năm yếu tố tiền đề đó với mục đích gia tăng nhận thức về quan hệ giữa người và máy trong bối cảnh công nghệ ngày càng thay đổi cuộc sống thường nhật. Năm tiền đề bao gồm: Tiền đề về cấu trúc xã hội, văn hóa, chính trị, và lịch sử; về tính tự chủ và sự tự do của con người; về nền tảng triết học và nhân văn của nhân loại; về hiện tượng tiếp biến văn hóa sinh ra từ tương tác giữa người và máy; về tam giác tương tác giữa con người với máy tính, giữa con người với con người, và giữa con người với thiên nhiên. Trên cơ sở giải thích rõ về năm tiền đề này, bài viết đã đưa ra ba gợi ý cho Việt Nam về việc phát triển, ứng dụng, và quản lý trí tuệ nhân tạo.

Ngành báo chí, một trong những ngành truyền thông mạnh mẽ nhất hiện nay, đang đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc cung cấp thông tin, giáo dục công chúng, và giải trí nhưng đồng thời cũng là một lĩnh vực có tính cạnh tranh cao và đầy biến động trong bối cảnh kinh tế toàn cầu. Bài viết nhằm đóng góp cái nhìn dưới lăng kính kinh tế học vào quá trình phát triển và cập nhật xu hướng của báo chí. Những Lý thuyết như trợ cấp chính phủ (government subsidy), lựa chọn hợp lý (rational choice), cũng những kiến thức phổ biến về cung và cầu sẽ giúp người đọc hiểu hơn về sự vận hành nền báo chí. Đồng thời, bài viết chỉ ra một số đặc tính riêng biệt của nền báo chí Việt Nam để giúp định hướng rõ hơn các chính sách phát triển. Cuối cùng, bài viết sẽ nêu ra một số thách thức và cơ hội dưới góc nhìn kinh tế học.

Bài viết giới thiệu mô hình hành vi chấp nhận công nghệ qua tiếp biến văn hóa mindsponge, gọi tắt là mô hình MTAM. - Lý thuyết về sự sàng lọc qua tiếp biến văn hóa về công nghệ cho chúng ta ba gợi ý để giảm bớt sự hỗn loạn của biển thông tin. - Ưu tiên trong việc làm rõ về giá trị cốt lõi của cá nhân và tổ chức, qua đó phân tích sự tính tương thích của các hệ thống công nghệ mới, thông tin mới với các giá trị đó. - Việc phát triển chuyên môn sâu, có tính kỉ luật giúp nền tảng bộ lọc thông tin của các cá nhân và tổ chức trở nên mạch lạc hơn. - Cuối cùng, việc đổi mới và sáng tạo để thích nghi trong điều kiện chuyển đổi số và công nghệ phát triển như vũ bão là quá trình đồng thời phản tỉnh về giá trị cốt lõi, kỉ luật phát triển chuyên môn sâu, nhằm tạo ra kết nối thông tin mới có tính giải thích, suy phóng cao.

Starting with the first international publication of Le Van Thiem (Lê Văn Thiêm) in 1947, modern mathematics in Vietnam is a longstanding research field. However, what is known about its development usually comes from discrete essays such as anecdotes or interviews of renowned mathematicians. We introduce SciMath—a database on publications of Vietnamese mathematicians. To ensure this database covers as many publications as possible, data entries are manually collected from scientists’ publication records, journals’ websites, universities, and research institutions. Collected data went through various verification steps to ensure data quality and minimize errors. At the time of this report, the database covered 8372 publications, profiles of 1566 Vietnamese, and 1492 foreign authors since 1947. We found a growing capability in mathematics research in Vietnam in various aspects: scientific output, publications on influential journals, or collaboration. The database and preliminary results were presented to the Scientific Council of Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) on November 13th, 2020.

In their recent paper, Vuong et al. (2024) suggest that activists should consider employing more strategic and constructive approaches to optimize their impact to avoid negative consequences. This involves carefully weighing the potential repercussions of their actions and focusing on engaging stakeholders collaboratively rather than adopting antagonistic tactics. Additionally, addressing these issues may require structural change, emphasizing the importance of a deliberate process rather than rushing it. They highlight the significance of adopting a solidarity approach, which involves collaboration among various stakeholders, including activists, governments, businesses, and citizens. This approach prioritizes education, promotes an eco-surplus culture based on pro-environmental values, and fosters collaboration to develop effective solutions while avoiding confrontational approaches.

Separation of powers is one of the ideas with profound theoretical and practical significance, especially in the field of political science. The birth of the theory of separation of powers marked the transition from the barbaric use of power in authoritarian societies to the exercise of civilized power in democratic societies. Therefore, separation of powers is considered an objective necessity in democratic states, a condition to ensure the promotion of liberal values, and a criterion for assessing the existence and development of the Rule of Law where people's sovereignty plays a paramount role. On the way to perfecting political thinking, the theory of separation of powers has developed into a complete system in the main philosophy of John Locke. Within the scope of the article, the author focuses on analyzing Locke's ideology of separation of powers in terms of the nature of separation of powers, the basis and some principles of power division, and the roles of the different parts of government power and the relationship between them.

The accession and implementation of new generation free trade agreements bring numerous opportunities as well as challenges to Viet Nam, regarding trade, labor and investment. The increasing number of workers abroad puts a pressure on Vietnamese government to support them in new working cultures and environments. The application of chatbot, which has been known to help certain vulnerable groups such as patients, women and migrants could be one of the tools to support Vietnamese migrant workers by providing immediate information, network connection and consultation. Analyzing the results of the qualitative interviews with 11 migrant workers and the group discussion with two sections from three public social media groups and three active informants, the article argues that migrant workers as a vulnerable group who are supposed to be promising users of chatbot due to their great demand and needs, may have a complicated form of trust and expectation in chatbot.

With the triumph of the current neo-liberal discourse, many university leaders worldwide have embraced an entrepreneurial model as the answer for change, turning the university from a public good into a commodity. Vietnam, a developing country in Southeast Asia, has become an active participant in this trend. This essay explores how neo-liberal discourse has shaped higher education in both developed and developing countries, with a focus on Vietnam. The expansion in Vietnam of private universities, the introduction of tuition fees, and the corporatization of higher education are all developments associated with trends toward marketization. Given the pervasiveness of globalization and the neo-liberal agenda, serious consequences will follow if the traditional role of the university is sacrificed to the invisible hand of the market. This is confirmed by ongoing trends and outcomes of university reform agendas in different parts of the world, including Vietnam. There is a need to recover the idea of the university as a public good, focusing on academic freedom, autonomy, and human development.

This research proposes a modified metaheuristic optimization algorithm, named as improved stochastic fractal search, which is formed based on the integration of the quasiopposition-based learning and chaotic local search schemes into the original SFS algorithm for solving the optimal capacitor placement in radial distribution networks. The test problem involves the determination of the optimal number, location, and size of fixed and switched capacitors at different loading conditions so that the network total yearly cost is minimized with simultaneous fulfillment of operating constraints. Also, the hourly on/off scheduling plans of switched shunt capacitors considering a modified cost objective function are obtained. The proposed ISFS algorithm has been tested on two IEEE 69-bus and 119-bus RDNs and a practical 152-bus RDN. For clarifying the effectiveness and validation of the ISFS, the simulated results have been compared with those of other previously utilized solution approaches in the literature as well as the original SFS. From result comparison, the proposed ISFS outperforms other previous approaches regarding solution quality and statistical performance for the compared cases, especially in the complex and large-scale networks. Notably, compared with the original SFS, the proposed ISFS shows a significantly better performance in all the tested cases.

Within the research community, it is generally accepted that consent processes for research should be culturally appropriate and tailored to the context, yet researchers continue to grapple with what valid consent means within specific stakeholder groups. In this study, we explored the consent practices and attitudes regarding essential information required for the consent process within hospital-based trial communities from four referral hospitals in Vietnam. We collected surveys from and conducted semi-structured interviews with study physicians, study nurses, ethics committee members, and study participants and family members regarding their experiences of participating in research, their perspectives toward research, and their views about various elements of the consent process. In our findings, we describe three interrelated themes related to the consent process: words and regulation; reimbursement, suspicions, and joining; and responsibilities. In general, stakeholders had highly varied perspectives of nghiên cứu and researchers used varying levels of detail regarding all aspects of the study in the consent process to build trust with and/or promote potential research participants’ choices about taking part in research. Findings additionally highlight how researchers felt that offering financial reimbursements in a hospital setting, where payment for services was routine, would be unfamiliar to participants and could raise suspicions about the research. Participants, however, focused their discussions on reimbursement or alternative reasons for joining the study, such as health related benefits or altruism. Finally, participants often relied on their physician to help them decide about joining a study or not. Further research is needed to understand how researchers and participants make sense of and practice consent, and how that impacts participants’ decision-making about research participation. To promote valid consent within this context, it is important to engage with hospital-based trial communities as a whole. The data from this study will inform future research on consent, guide the revisions of consent related policies within our research sites and point to several larger issues surrounding researcher-participant expectations, communication, and trust.
