Timothy M. Rogers

Interested in the intersections between foundational questions in modern physics, semiotics, postmodern philosophy and theology. My research involves tracing formal connections between the role of light in theories of modern physics (relativity theory and quantum mechanics) and the role of word in theories of meaning (hermeneutics and analytical philosophy). These formal connections disclose the triadic logic of systems and signs (semiotics) as a singular expansion of the binary logic of classes and objects (propositional logic and differential calculus). Whereas binary logic results in static totalizing systems defined through the law of the excluded middle, triadic logic results in dynamic synchronizing systems through which interiority and exteriority are mediated by (in-formation bearing) signs. Key interlocutors: Augustine, Hegel, Peirce, Levinas, as well as Newton, Bergson, Einstein, Gadamer, Bohm. Completed PhD in physics (condensed matter theory) and currently studying theology.
