Tom Froese is Associate Professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), where he leads the Embodied Cognitive Science Unit. His work spans the enactive approach to mind, phenomenology, and artificial life, bringing empirical research on social interaction and consciousness together with philosophical work on agency and sense-making. He is the originator of irruption theory, which offers a way of understanding how the motivated activity of a living agent can make a genuine difference to the physical world — a fresh angle on the mind-body problem and the efficacy of the mental.
