Can logic be fully detached from philosophy and absorbed into mathematics? In Logic: From Philosophy to Mathematics? Towards George Boole’s Algebra of Logic, Christian Toumba Patalé examines George Boole’s transformative project of recasting logic as a mathematical science. Traditionally rooted in Aristotelian and Stoic philosophies, logic underwent a major shift in the nineteenth century when Boole, inspired by Leibniz’s vision of a calculus ratiocinator, proposed expressing the laws of thought through algebra. By introducing a symbolic system based on binary values (0 and 1), he laid the groundwork for modern symbolic logic and computer science. At the crossroads of Logic, Epistemology, Philosophy of Mathematics, and Philosophy of Computer Science, this work demonstrates that while Boole’s algebra revolutionized reasoning and shaped our contemporary computational civilization, it does not exhaust the richness and complexity of human thought. Logic emerges here as both a mathematical discipline and a philosophical inquiry, demanding rigor, but also constant critical vigilance. Christian Toumba Patalé holds a Ph.D in Philosophy (Logic and Epistemology). He is Lecturer at the Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences of the University of Dschang (Cameroon). His field of research focuses on the use of Logic, of Philosophy of Science, and of Digital Humanities in understanding and interpreting current scientific developments.

The aim of this study is to examine the transposition of scientific and technical concepts into the political sphere, particularly with regards to the management of political skids and missteps in the digital age. The Internet and cybernetics era has profoundly transformed political affairs; this network of barely fifty years old continues to challenge established powers. Even more remarkably, the pioneers of the Internet probably didn’t realize it in their laboratories: Internet has succeeded in disrupting the established order. This study will examine the dominant representations of political crises in their expressions and manifestations within cyberspace. At a time when public spaces are being redefined by digital mediation, it is essential to critically analyze the emergence of the new forms of discourse and communication that disrupt and overturn certain socio-political inertias.

Du patriotisme : Perspectives épistémiques, politiques et stratégiques propose une analyse rigoureuse et nuancée d’un concept souvent jugé désuet, mais toujours au cœur des dynamiques contemporaines. Des formes antiques aux enjeux contemporains, les auteurs retracent l’évolution du patriotisme, le distinguent de ses dérives et interrogent les facteurs de son affaiblissement. Une attention particulière est accordée au contexte africain, où est défendue l’idée d’un patriotisme substantiel : rationnel, raisonnable, critique et engagé, capable de renforcer l’unité nationale, la solidarité et la participation citoyenne. D’un point de vue épistémique, l’ouvrage montre que le patriotisme ne saurait être une essence intemporelle : il est une construction sociohistorique dont les significations évoluent selon les contextes. En tant que principe politique, il légitime l’ordre et la crédibilité étatiques, stabilise les institutions et mobilise les sociétés. Sur le plan stratégique, il devient une ressource symbolique au service du développement, de la souveraineté et de la cohésion collective. Accessible et stimulant, ce livre s’adresse aux étudiants, chercheurs et citoyens désireux de repenser le patriotisme non comme un vestige du passé, mais comme un levier pour construire des sociétés plus unies, responsables et vivantes.

En rupture avec une conception de la logique comme se rapportant aux opérations de la pensée, le projet logiciste et logico-positiviste de Russell et Carnap, dont les assises sont garanties par l’affirmation du primat du « logos-calcul » sur le « logos-raison » / « logos-langage », s’impose, non plus simplement comme fondement des mathématiques, mais comme ouverture au monde de la connaissance des choses, de la réalité et surtout comme socle d’une philosophie scientifique. La construction de cette philosophie scientifique à partir de la rigueur logique débouche, osons-nous penser, sur un repli architectonique dont la perspective est de définir un piédestal rigide et absolu qui garantit et délimite la rationalité scientifique. La présente réflexion souligne la nécessité d’un amendement critique d’une telle prétention architectonique à forte connotation absolutiste et scientiste.

The early 20th century philosophy withstood what is known as “linguistic turn”, a concept espoused by Gustav Bergmann in his review of Peter’s Strawson’s Individuals in 1960, under the name of analytic philosophy. This turn was quite panoramic, fastening on all aspects of language such as the nature of language, the nature of meaning, the nature of reference, semantic theory, linguistic phenomena, varieties of speech act, the epistemology and metaphysics of language, not forgetting the theory of truth, the relation between language and reality, and must especially the logical analysis of this one. This turn greatly captured the interest of a huge number of philosophers, logicians and mathematicians amongst which the Austrian Philosopher and Logician Ludwig Wittgenstein. The question of the relationship between language and reality is one of his fundamental concerns. Language to him is essentially descriptive, isomorphic to the world. In fact, it is the ultimate reality. This work therefore seeks to examine the bond that exists between these notions. With that being said, the Wittgensteinian conception of language as correlative to reality, is it perfectly consistent when we know that language has a dimension other than reality?
