Troy Seagraves

I'm a Ph.D. candidate in philosophy at Purdue University, specializing in ethics, epistemology, and philosophy of religion.  My research focuses on how agent-relative facts influence what agents should do and believe. My dissertation, "Normative Roles of the Self", which I will defend in Spring 2024, unpacks four ways in which specific agent-intrinsic facts make such a difference. An agent, for instance, may have a specific orientation towards value (a stance) that informs how they react to this value. Even God may have commitments that influence his reasons for action (without giving him a new reason).  My research also delves into the virtuousness and viciousness of self-oriented attitudes like esteem.
