V.T.Cheshko have done the comparative socio-historical analysis of the Michurinist genetics in the former USSR, “racial hygiene” in Nazi Germany and eugenics in the US and Western Europe. He came to the conclusion that the factors that led to the rapid rise (and, obviously, to fall too) of Trofim Lysenko are long-term and demonstrated the specific competition between schools and groups of the scientific community in a totalitarian social environment.
He also investigated the socio-cultural and political consequences of turning man into an object of technological manipulation. To substantiate the thesis of the transformation of the so-called High Hume technology in instruments of rationalist targeted control of globally evolutionary process and bundle single stream of scientific knowledge into two components – a risky and warning science.
He developed the concept of the three-modular stable evolutionary strategy of Homo sapiens. In accordance the concept adaptation and evolutionary success of the humanis is achieved by the co-evolutionary interaction of genetic, cultural and technological adaptive modules, each of them has an autonomous system of generating, encoding and replication. This explanatory model is used to evaluate the evolutionary risks of High Hume technologies.
He was Member of the working group of the Commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the history of Soviet genetics and analysis of the consequences of Lysenkoism (1989-1991).
