My primary field of interest is history of modern philosophy; I am best known for my work on Spinoza's philosophy. Thematically, what interests me most are basic ontological questions and views of human existence connected to them; or, perhaps one can say, the interplay between metaphysics and ethics. Accordingly, I have published on both so-called theoretical and practical topics in the era that spans, roughly, from Descartes to Nietzsche. Kant's moral philosophy is especially central for my present work.
