The neural correlates of core perceptual capacities in infants
    with Michael J. Arcaro
    Behavioral and Brain Sciences. forthcoming.
Infants show sensitivity to objects, geometry, number, and agents. These capacities have been interpreted as reflecting cognitive systems that serve as foundations for reasoning. Bai and colleagues challenge this view, proposing that these capacities are perceptual. We provide neurodevelopmental evidence that core capacities are anchored to perceptual systems that are among the earliest in the brain to develop.
