I am a biochemist by training. My lab is engaged in determining the structure and function of bacterial and archaeal enzymes of potential biomedical importance. In the past, I've looked at phosphofructokinases and anthranilate synthases from various bacteria and archaea. Currently we are probing the structure and function of chorismate-utilizing enzymes from antibiotic-producing bacteria. I also have interests in several areas outside biochemistry, including ecological ethics and bioethics, climate change, the history of biology, and the science-religion debate.
