I am Professor in the Department of Philosophy and the Neuroscience Institute, Carnegie Mellon University. I was also formerly associate director of the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition.

I work on attention, perception, action and schizophrenia at the interface between philosophy and cognitive science.

Recent work focuses on introspection, attention and their targets: phenomenal experience, intention, and action.

I have published two books, Movements of the Mind (OUP, 2023) on mental action and Attention (Routledge, 2014 1st ed; 2nd ed in 2025).
