The leading questions of my research are as follows: how many types of akrasia does Aristotle endorse in his ethical treatises, on the one hand, and what are the relationships between each type of akrasia and its corresponding moral responsibility, on the other? To be specific, first, I want to find an account of akrasia that is compatible with both the intellectual interpretation and the non-intellectual interpretation of Aristotle’s view on akrasia, arguing that Aristotle would endorse three types of akrasia: weak akrasia, impetuous akrasia and ignorant akrasia, and second, I want to explore whether the akratic agent is responsible for all types of akrasia, and how she/he has different responsibilities for different type of akrasia. Furthermore, I also keep an eye on contemporary discussions of akrasia as well as the control and epistemic conditions for moral responsibility.
