© 2016 ACM.Replay of parallel execution is required by HPC debuggers and resilience mechanisms. Up-to-date, there is no existing deterministic replay solution for one-sided communication. The essential problem is that the readers of updated data do not have any information on which remote threads produced the updates, the conventional happens-before based ordering tracking techniques are challenging to work at scale. This paper presents SReplay, the first software tool for sub-group deterministic record and replay for one-sided communication. SReplay allows the user to specify and record the execution of a set of threads of interest, and then deterministically replays the execution of the sub-group on a local machine without starting the remaining threads. SReplay ensures sub-group determinism using a hybrid dataand order-replay technique. SReplay maintains scalability by a combination of local logging and approximative event order tracking within sub-group. Our evaluation on deterministic and nondeterministic UPC programs shows that SReplay introduces an overhead ranging from 1:3× to 29×, when running on 1,024 cores and tracking up to 16 threads.

All rights reserved.Aliphatic and aromatic lipids are both essential structural components of the plant cuticle, an important interface between the plant and environment. Although cross links between aromatic and aliphatic or other moieties are known to be associated with the formation of leaf cutin and root and seed suberin, the contribution of aromatic lipids to the biosynthesis of anther cuticles and pollen walls remains elusive. In this study, we characterized the rice male sterile mutant, defective pollen wall 2, which showed an abnormal anther cuticle, a defective pollen wall, and complete male sterility. Compared with the wild type, dpw2 anthers have increased amounts of cutin and waxes and decreased levels of lipidic and phenolic compounds. DPW2 encodes a cytoplasmically localized BAHD acyltransferase. In vitro assays demonstrated that recombinant DPW2 specifically transfers hydroxycinnamic acid moieties, using v-hydroxy fatty acids as acyl acceptors and hydroxycinnamoyl-CoAs as acyl donors. Thus, The cytoplasmic hydroxycinnamoyl-CoA:v-hydroxy fatty acid transferase DPW2 plays a fundamental role in male reproduction via the biosynthesis of key components of the anther cuticle and pollen wall.

Maximin distance designs as an important class of space-filling designs are widely used in computer experiments, yet their constructions are challenging. In this thesis, we develop an efficient procedure to generate maximin Latin hypercube designs, as well as maximin multi-level fractional factorial designs, from existing orthogonal or nearly orthogonal arrays via level permutation and expansion. We show that the distance distributions of the generated designs are closely connected with the distance distributions and generalized word-length patterns of the initial designs. Examples are presented to show that our method outperforms many current prevailing methods. In addition, based on number theory and finite fields, we propose three algebraic methods to construct maximin distance Latin squares, as special Latin hypercube designs. We develop lower bounds on their minimum distances. The resulting Latin squares and related Latin hypercube designs have larger minimum distances than existing ones, and are especially appealing for high-dimensional applications. We show an application of space-filling designs in a combinatorial drug experiment on lung cancer. We compare four types of designs: a 512-run 8-level full factorial design, 80-run random sub-designs, 27-run random sub-designs and a 27-run space-filling three-level sub-design under four types of models: Kriging models, neural networks, linear models and Hill-based nonlinear models. We find that it is the best to adopt space-filling designs fitting Kriging models.
