17The Modal Logic of n-State FramesIn Valentin Goranko, Chenwei Shi & Wei Wang (eds.), Logic, Rationality, and Interaction: 10th International Conference on Logic, Rationality and Interaction, LORI 2025, Xi’an, China, October 16–19, 2025, Proceedings, Springer Nature Singapore. pp. 95-109. 2026.Modal logics often have the finite model property. However, for many applications the state space is not only finite, but of fixed size n for a positive number n. An example is reasoning about a social network where the relations can vary but the set of agents (corresponding to states) is fixed. In this paper we investigate the modal logic of frames with n states, for any positive integer n, in the basic modal language. This defines a family of modal logics parameterized by n. We give complete a…Read more

48Historical Slave Trade and Corporate Tax Evasion in AfricaJournal of Business Ethics 203 (3): 575-591. 2025.We examine the impact of the African slave trade on corporate tax evasion in modern Africa. Using data from 28 African countries, we document that firms are more likely to evade taxes in countries that suffered a higher level of historical slave extraction. This finding is robust to an instrumental variable analysis. We further use household survey data to show that the slave trade has a long-lasting negative impact on tax compliance attitudes in the society and the quality of tax enforcement in…Read more

16The mechanical environment crucially influences many cell functions 1. However, it remains largely mysterious how mechanical stimuli are transmitted into biochemical signals. Src is known to regulate the integrin-cytoskeleton interaction2, which is essential for the transduction of mechanical stimuli3-5. Using fluorescent resonance energy transfer, here we develop a genetically encoded Src reporter that enables the imaging and quantification of spatio-temporal activation of Src in live cells. We…Read more

46Is the Unity of Goodness and Beauty the Feature of the Confucian Aesthetics?Proceedings of the Xxii World Congress of Philosophy 1 273-281. 2008.Carroll denies that the spectator of fiction film commonly has empathy with the characters. He argues that the spectator typically emotes to the events in the film from his position as observer, and that this context gives asymmetrical reactions in spectator and character. According to Carroll, empathy is unlikely to occur. Theproblem with this argument is that if the differences between spectator and character that Carroll points to exclude empathy, it would also exclude empathy in real life. F…Read more

19Contactin-Associated protein-like 2 is a large multidomain neuronal adhesion molecule implicated in a number of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, and language delay. We reveal here by electron microscopy that the architecture of CNTNAP2 is composed of a large, medium, and small lobe that flex with respect to each other. Using epitope labeling and fragments, we assign the F58C, L1, and L2 domains to the large lobe, the FB…Read more

20Analysis of gene expression patterns in gastric cancer can help to identify a comprehensive panel of gene biomarkers for predicting clinical outcomes and to discover potential new therapeutic targets. Here, a multi-step bioinformatics analytic approach was developed to establish a novel prognostic scoring system for GC. We first identified 276 genes that were robustly differentially expressed between normal and GC tissues, of which, 249 were found to be significantly associated with overall surv…Read more

26Background: PPM1G is a nuclear localized serine/threonine phosphatase implicated to be a regulator of chromatin remodeling, mRNA splicing, and DNA damage. However, its in vivo function is unknown. Results: Here we show that ppm1g expression is highly enriched in the central nervous system during mouse and zebrafish development. ppm1g-/- mice were embryonic lethal with incomplete penetrance after E12.5. Rostral defects, including neural tube and craniofacial defects were observed in ppm1g-/- embr…Read more

31Using the ER-fMRI technique, the present study was designed to investigate the neural substrates of language switching among second-language learners. Twelve Chinese college students who were learning English were scanned when they performed language switching tasks. Compared to non-switching conditions, language switching elicited greater activation in the right superior prefrontal cortex, left middle and superior frontal cortex, and right middle cingulum and caudate. When the direction of swit…Read more

16© 2015 IEEE. Over 50% of HIV+ individuals exhibit neurocognitive impairment and subcortical atrophy, but the pattern of brain abnormalities associated with HIV is still poorly understood. Using parametric surface-based shape analyses, we mapped the 3D profile of subcortical morphometry in 63 HIV+ participants and 31 uninfected controls. The thalamus, corpus striatum, hippocampus, amygdala, brainstem, callosum and ventricles were segmented from brain MRIs. To investigate subcortical shape, we ana…Read more

9Background: Malaria around the China-Myanmar border is a serious health problem in the countries of South-East Asia. An. minimus is a principle malaria vector with a wide geographic distribution in this area. Malaria is endemic along the boundary between Yunnan province in China and the Kachin State of Myanmar where the local Anopheles community and the malaria transmission vectors have never been clarified. Methods. Adult Anopheles specimens were collected using CDC light traps in four villages…Read more

109Coping strategies and interventions to alleviate moral distress among pediatric ICU nurses: A scoping reviewNursing Ethics 32 (2): 437-459. 2025.Backgrounds Moral distress significantly affects pediatric ICU nurses, leading to nurse burnout, increased turnover and reducing patient care quality. Despite its importance, there’s a notable gap in knowledge on how to manage it effectively. Aims This review aimed to systematically identify and analyze coping strategies and interventions targeting moral distress among pediatric nurses in ICU, uncovering research gap and future studies directions. Methods A scoping review was conducted followed …Read more

144Confucius on the Relationship of Beauty and GoodnessJournal of Aesthetic Education 49 (1): 68-81. 2015.The ideology about the relation between goodness and beauty for Confucius and the early Confucians is the continuation of the aesthetic tradition long before Confucius’s time, which sees more value in Yuejiao, namely, music/beauty education, than in Lijiao, Moral education. No doubt Confucius’s aesthetic idea is featured as the juxtaposition of Li and Yue, goodness and beauty. But we must not forget that Confucius, taking himself as a preserver of the sages’ tradition, personally values Yue (mus…Read more

88Intermittent Control for Cluster-Delay Synchronization in Directed NetworksComplexity 2018 1-9. 2018.We investigate cluster-delay synchronization of a directed network possessing cluster structures by designing an intermittent control protocol. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, we proved that synchronization can be realized for oscillators in the same cluster and cluster-delay synchronization can be realized for the whole network. By simplifying the obtained sufficient conditions, we carry out a succinct and utilitarian corollary. In addition, comparative researches are carried out to show th…Read more

98Public announcement logic with distributed knowledge: expressivity, completeness and complexitySynthese 190 (S1). 2013.While dynamic epistemic logics with common knowledge have been extensively studied, dynamic epistemic logics with distributed knowledge have so far received far less attention. In this paper we study extensions of public announcement logic ( $\mathcal{PAL }$ ) with distributed knowledge, in particular their expressivity, axiomatisations and complexity. $\mathcal{PAL }$ extended only with distributed knowledge is not more expressive than standard epistemic logic with distributed knowledge. In particular, sentences with the charact…Read more
