Yu Yang, PhD, is a Lecturer at the School of Fine Arts, Zhengzhou University, China, and a Visiting Researcher at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. Yu Yang, PhD, is a Lecturer at the School of Fine Arts, Zhengzhou University, China, and a Visiting Researcher at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. Having studied and conducted research in Europe since 2011, particularly in Italy and Portugal, he received his PhD in Art Studies from the University of Lisbon.
His research spans art theory, visual culture, film and moving-image studies, image narrative, and cross-cultural studies of East Asian art. His particular interests include complex and puzzle-film narratives, cinematic cognition and spectatorship, audiovisual expression, and the relationships between painting, still images, and moving-image media.
His research has been published in Web of Science–indexed journals including CINEJ Cinema Journal and Acta Universitatis Sapientiae, Film and Media Studies, as well as Scopus-indexed journals including The International Journal of Literary Humanities and The International Journal of Critical Cultural Studies. His research has also appeared in Web of Science CPCI-SSH indexed international conference proceedings, and he has contributed scholarly chapters to volumes published by Springer and Dykinson.
His doctoral research received the Best Postgraduate Student Work Award from the Association of Moving Image Researchers (AIM). In China, he has been officially recognized as a Category D High-Level Talent of Henan Province, a provincial designation for high-level professional and research talent, and has been selected for the Zhongyuan Talent Program, a major provincial talent-development initiative in Henan.
