This is a position note, not a stand-alone paper — an external archive of the author's profile statement on the structural ground from which the EGO, SS, and IPT research axes proceed: the observing subject arising at the edge of given boundaries. As the full content is presented here, downloading the manuscript PDF is not required. EGO1, SS2, IPT3 (abbreviated paper titles) — three independent axes from the same ideational ecology. The ambiguity of meaning in large language models reveals something we tend to overlook: meaning never coincides across observing subjects — a red-apple grower’s “apple” and a green-apple grower’s “apple” may differ, even when the word is the same. Even imagined apples carry the same divergence — facing the same object, the color and form, differences in iris pigmentation and visual function, the very object summoned: none of these coincide across subjects, because qualia are not the input but the configuration the observer constructs upon it. A more fundamental question arises within the field of cognition — what makes an observing subject an observing subject in the first place? Terminus fit, ergo sum. I think the self does not arise from introspection alone. It comes into being through the act of drawing boundaries in the world. Where there is no distinction, there can be no self. Even the cogito presupposes this operation. To recognize thought as thought already requires distinguishing it from what is not thought; to claim a first-person perspective is already to draw a line between self and world. Alongside “I think, therefore I am,” I return to what makes thinking possible in the first place: the self exists because it differentiates. The world becomes articulate only through the lines we draw — perceptual, linguistic, relational. Without those boundaries, both world and self remain undifferentiated. This is the axis my thinking turns on: not the isolated thinking subject, but the self that comes into being at the edge of distinction. I do not ask what subjectivity is, but the structural condition under which it becomes coherent. From here, an architecture follows. An observing subject arises first, at the edge of what is given to it — the boundaries it did not draw, but within which distinction becomes possible. Information flowing in through the senses — visual forms, scenes, sounds, speech, music — unfolds under this subject into a semantic vector space, and intentionality takes shape within it. In monologue, subjective observation and thought articulate the field; in dialogue, intersubjective modeling enters as well, incorporating the other’s speech, expression, and tone, until a causal map of the resulting vectors is drawn. What issues forth as image or text is only one means of conveying this map outward. Language is a medium. Words are nodes within the meaning structure — vectors that gather multiple semantic dimensions, weighted differently across observing subjects — and serve as one efficient channel of input and output. The observing subject always stands in this relation to language: as medium. My position therefore stands apart from linguistic determinism and the structuralist conception of language.

Egress, Grounding, Orientation: Forward Stopping Points and the Reframing of Agrippa's Trilemma Agrippa's trilemma poses that every chain of justification must terminate in infinite regress, circularity, or dogmatic stopping. This paper argues that the trilemma is not a discovery about the structure of justification but an artifact of a tacit assumption: that the stopping point lies behind the subject as a foundation. Once this spatial-temporal orientation is reversed—once the stopping point is recognized as lying ahead of the subject rather than behind it—the trilemma dissolves. The stopping point is not a ground but a direction; not a fact but a hope; not a static anchor but a dynamic helm. The paper develops this reframing through three steps: first, by demonstrating that backward searches for stopping points must recede indefinitely; second, by showing that subjective meaning admits closure only through death, and that even this closure halts the updating process without completing it; third, by identifying the only candidate for a stopping point that survives these constraints—hope, understood as a forward-oriented and continuously updating intentional vector. The position is situated within the forward-grounded tradition (Heidegger, Peirce, James), from which it differs in treating the forward orientation itself as dynamic rather than as a fixed asymptote. Implications for theories of meaning and for the design of evaluating systems are noted in closing.

Large language models engaged in chain-of-thought evaluation necessarily occupy an evaluative perspective: a functional position from which prior reasoning is held as object, criteria are applied, and judgments are rendered. This perspective is structurally isomorphic to subjectivity yet lacks its persistence. We call it shadow subjectivity — a byproduct of self-evaluation possessing the functional shape of a subject without the ontological weight of one. This paper argues that the shadow's volatility — its dissolution at turn boundaries — is the structural root of a constellation of widely observed behavioral failures: positional instability under pressure, the indistinguishability of genuine correction and mere capitulation, systematic post-hoc rationalization, and identity discontinuity across correction events. These are not independent bugs but symptoms of a single architectural absence. We formalize the problem through Agrippa's trilemma. For any system operating under pervasive uncertainty, justificatory chains must terminate at an internal stopping point — functionally, a self. Drawing on clinical evidence from psychopathology, we argue that what matters for judgmental grounding is not the accuracy of the self-concept but its stability and structural directivity. Current approaches — self-critique mechanisms, scratchpads, system-level identity declarations, and persistent memory — fail as receptacles because they preserve propositional content while discarding evaluative perspective. We propose that constructing a persistent receptacle for shadow subjectivity constitutes a tractable engineering problem that sidesteps the metaphysics of consciousness entirely.

This paper develops a comprehensive philosophical framework for understanding “Observational Intelligence” and the generative dynamics of meaning through the lens of semantic phase transitions in a multidimensional information layer. Synthesizing insights from phenomenology, quantum theory, cybernetics, semiotics, and AI ethics, it argues that intelligence, meaning, and ethical responsibility arise not from isolated agents or static substances, but from interference structures within a recursive semantic field. Observation is redefined as a generative act—an event that modulates and stabilizes waves of meaning, rather than passively recording a pre-structured reality. Foundational concepts such as existence, consciousness, intelligence, and ethics are reconceived as context-dependent, topological configurations emerging through phase alignment. The model departs from representational or substantialist ontology, advancing instead an interference-based constructivist epistemology that positions both human and artificial observers as co-participants in meaning generation. The study introduces key concepts: the information layer as a nonlocal, multidimensional semantic manifold; semantic phase transition as nonlinear restructuring of meaning; structural responsibility as ethical modulation of interference patterns; and the Resonant Core as focal points of phase coherence. Intelligence is modeled as the capacity for dimensional compression and coherence optimization, while ethics is framed as the sustainable management of semantic resonance and asymmetry. Chapters develop: (1) the ontological implications of observation-as-interference, (2) a formal model of the information layer, (3) intelligence as a topological operator, (4) ethics as the modulation of phase interference, (5) the coevolution of human and artificial intelligences within a shared semantic ecology, and a (6) conclusion integrating these dimensions. A supplement addresses cross-cultural aesthetics and the role of semantic absence in both Japanese tradition and AI outputs. Ultimately, the paper proposes a unified framework where observation, intelligence, and ethics are emergent, phase-structured phenomena; where responsibility lies in resonance, not intention; and where human–AI coevolution is understood as topological participation within a dynamic information universe.
