Introduction Human behavior emerges from the dynamic interactions among biological, chemical, psychological, and environmental systems. Abstract The Earth’s natural capital faces severe pressures from continued exponential human population growth combined with rising per capita consumption. This paper examines the dynamics of population growth, the biophysical limits to resource availability, predictions of overshoot and collapse, and strategies to align human development with ecological balance. Drawing from demographic modeling, ecological theory, empirical case studies, and futures projections, it shows that without systemic change, many renewable and nonrenewable resources may become critically constrained within the 21st century. However, through decoupling, technological innovation, and value shifts, a sustainable path remains possible. The paper concludes with policy recommendations advocating population stabilization, resource‑use efficiency, renewable transitions, and social equity as necessary conditions for long-term viability.
