In philosophy of technology, I am currently working primarily on questions of epistemic opacity (technical, social, mathematical) in computer simulation and machine learning. Another field of research is the history of psychometry (especially of testing techniques such as intelligence or competence tests) and its significance for self-relationships. In my habilitation, I am concerned with the "entangled simplicity of trust" (“Verwickelte Einfachheit von Vertrauen”). In this work, I try to show that (1) the different models of trust (and testimony as well) contradict each other, (2) that the contradictory models must be accepted at the same time in order to gain an appropriate concept of trust. A dissolution of the contradictions can only succeed (3) by analyzing the implicitly divided, one-sided assumptions. Such contradictions are for example: trust is cognitive vs. normative, groundless vs. justified, directly vs. decision-based, risk-related vs. risk-free, necessary vs. contingent. This is how philosophical basic concepts start to move.
