​I work in practical philosophy, focusing on metaphysical questions about agency and ethics, especially as they relate to each other. There are two main strands of this research. One is an attempt to develop the view that practical reason is our type of will rather than a distinct intellectual capacity whose exercises, when things go well, influence those of our will. The other is an attempt to explain a version of constitutivism which says that what something is determines what it should be, at least with respect to things by nature subject to normative standards…
