This article attempts to reconstruct and analyze some selected philosophical views of the Polish physicist Małgorzata Głódź, especially within the context of her links with the interdisciplinary milieu in Kraków (known as the “Kraków School of Philosophy in Science”). It emphasizes the significant role that Głódź played in the historical development of this intellectual tradition. The main portion of this article highlights the connections between Głódź’s philosophy and the philosophical ideas propagated by Michał Heller, the School’s main founder, and his students and other collaborators. The article also indicates elements of her philosophical achievements that deserve attention from the perspective of today’s philosophical challenges.

METHODOLOGIES OF DIGITAL HUMANITIES IN PHILOSOPHY. AN INTRODUCTION The aim of the book is to present the key aspects of research methods in philosophy. Therefore, it is intended primarily for students of philosophy and doctoral students. The authors’ intention is to offer an introduction to independent philosophical work adopting the resources offered by digital humanities, a field which has recently revolutionized the humanities. Digital technologies have significantly changed the ways of working with texts. The introduction of digital tools into philosophy makes it possible to study its broader context and track distant connections between ideas, and significantly facilitates work on source material. The book consists of seven chapters covering the main issues of modern methodology in philosophy. We begin by introducing how to study philosophy, how to find trustworthy texts, and how to benefit from using a library, which is the basic workplace for the humanist. Then we turn to the computer as an important tool of the contemporary philosopher, and discuss topics such as text editing, and the use of search engines for locating Internet resources. The third chapter is devoted to matters related to philosophical writing. We start with ethical issues, and then look at the main types of philosophical works. We also deal with the characteristics of the dissertation as a genre. In the fourth part of the book, we discuss the formatting of lists of references and footnotes. The next chapter deals with the art of presenting one’s own research results – in this part of the book we outline the best practices in designing lectures and multimedia presentations. In the last two chapters, which are mainly intended for PhD students. Firstly we address selected issues important for the management of bibliographic data and references in Zotero. Next we discuss the academic activities of a doctoral student, such as publishing academic articles, establishing one’s online academic reputation, important information about the doctoral dissertation, and the stages of the doctoral dissertation assesment process. The article attempts to reconstruct and analyze selected philosophical views of Leszek Sokołowski—a Krakow physicist and cosmologist who published many works dealing with issues on the border of science and philosophy (including metaphysics). An important aim of the article is also to place Sokołowski’s views in the context of the concept of “philosophy in science” (by M. Heller) and the phenomenon of the Kraków School of Philosophy in Science. In this paper, I suggest that Sokołowski’s views fit into the philosophy initiated by Michał Heller, and Sokołowski himself can be considered a member of the Kraków School of Philosophy in Science.

The article discusses the problem of the christian concept of the human person in theological and philosophical context, and with reference to evolutionary sciences. It was pointed out that the naturalistic evolutionism undermines the most important assumptions (especially thesis proclaiming the unique status of human in nature), which is based on christian anthropology. In this paper it was also an attempt to justify that philosophical reflection can be important in the analysis of problems located between science and religion (among others the issue of the origin, nature and destiny of man). The question about new type of christian philosophy is a challenge in theology, which will be obliged – because of the changing image of the world and man – to modify its foundations, rooted mainly in the Thomistic metaphysics so far. Besides, in the context of issues relating to the meaning of human life it indicates that there is a need to develop such a philosophy, which is based on the achievements of natural science, and would be in dialogue with the contemporary humanities.

The paper concerns the origin and early stage of development of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies at the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Kraków. Center for Interdisciplinary Studies was founded by Michał Heller and Józef Życiński in the late 1970s. It was an informal institution which focused on conducting scientific activity in the area of philosophy of nature, relationship between mathematical & natural sciences and philosophy, history of science, as well as relationships between science and religion. In this paper I would like to present how this institution developed, I will discuss various forms of its activity and discuss—very generally—what kind of philosophy was promoted by M. Heller, J. Życiński as well as their pupils and close associates. An important part of the paper will also concern the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies as a unique institution, which has developed—in difficult historical period in Poland—philosophical research in the spirit of freedom and respect for the new achievements of science, and also promoted interdisciplinary dialogue between scientists and philosophers.

W artykule podjęto próbę analizy sposobu uprawiania filozofii przyrody przez Tadeusza Stanisława Wojciechowskiego (1917-2000), profesora filozofii na Papieskiej Akademii Teologicznej w Krakowie. Artykuł składa się ze wstępu, części biograficznej, rozdziału poświęconego analizie sposobu uprawiania filozofii przyrody przez T. Wojciechowskiego, a także próby podsumowania i oceny stanowiska krakowskiego uczonego.Wstępne analizy wskazują, że sposób uprawiania filozofii przyrody przez T. Wojciechowskiego był oryginalny, szczególnie gdy weźmie się pod uwagę kontekst historyczny. Koncepcja krakowskiego filozofa sytuuje się między tradycyjnymi rozwiązaniami neoscholastycznymi a próbą wyjścia poza klasyczne rozwiązania w kwestiach metodologicznych na gruncie filozofii przyrody.
