In traditional decision-making, when faced with a choice between two seemingly equivalent options, a common approach is to resort to a random decision, such as a coin toss. However, this paper proposes deterministic rules that outperform such stochastic methods by achieving the same expected value while minimizing variance. Furthermore, we demonstrate numerically that, for a reasonable number of choices, our proposed rule second-order stochastically dominates the coin-tossing approach. Consequently, risk-averse decision-makers may prefer our deterministic method over traditional coin tossing.

The Alhambra was possible thanks to the establishment of several hydraulic techniques. Two long water channels had to be built to supply water to the palaces and vegetable gardens of the Alhambra and its surroundings. Where it was necessary, ingenious elevation systems were implemented to break the altitude limitations. Muḥammad I built the Royal Water Channel in 1238 to supply the palatine city and the irrigated areas of the almunia of the Generalife. Later on, in the second half of the fourteenth century, the Acequia de los Arquillos was opened by Muḥammad V to supply another series of outdoor palaces with vegetable gardens that could not be serviced by the Acequia Real. The decline through Nasrid rule in the fifteenth century prevented the survival of these latest almunias that were the most costly to maintain. This paper presents the latest findings related to the whole Nasrid hydraulic system that allowed the creation and development of this medieval Islamic masterpiece.

En la carta a los Romanos, la función de la fe y de la caridad es explícita: el hombre se justifica por la fe, sin necesidad de las obras de la ley; y la consecuencia de ello es una vida presentada como ofrenda agradable a Dios mediante el ejercicio de la caridad. En cuanto a la esperanza, su función no es muy clara. Es por esto que, a partir del dato bíblico, especialmente del análisis de Rm 8, 18-30, descubriremos que, en la carta a los Romanos, la función de la esperanza (ἐλπίς) es hacer ver a los bautizados que fueron creados para una vida que trasciende los límites del espacio y del tiempo presente: la vida del mundo futuro, la vida eterna; esta es la meta que nos anima a avanzar incluso en medio de los sufrimientos que hacen desvanecer el sentido de nuestra existencia. Y esto solo es posible porque Dios, a quien estamos adheridos por la fe, es quien lo realiza.

Este ensayo se ocupa del concepto de verdad a la luz del naturalismo (el predicado “verdad” tiene validez en el lenguaje corriente, y no en adaptaciones formales al lenguaje ordinario), del relativismo ontológico (admisión del carácter cambiante de la realidad), de la lógica de la vaguedad (’’fussy logic”) y del probabilismo subjetivo, enfatizando sobre la tesis de que la verdad tiene sentido cuando puede emplearse con significación social; que no debe entenderse de manera absoluta (como independiente de cualquier otra cosa) sino en términos probabilísticos' y de relaciones espaciotemporales, tanto en su manejo subjetivo como en el objetivo; que dado su carácter lingüístico, comunicable y verificable, no cabe aplicarse con sentido a otras formas rio-cognitivas de conocimiento (súplicas, mandatos, etc. -como bien señaló Aristóteles-) ni al arte, al mito, lo numinoso, a las profundas intuiciones de la naturaleza, concepciones del mundo y otras vivencias que a menudo constituyen el saber fundamental de un individuo reflexivo y cuya adjetivación, sugiero, corresponde más al concepto de sabiduría que al de verdad. Quedan por fuera de nuestra consideración, entonces, la suposición de que existen “verdades absolutas”, la intuición tomista de la verdad, como adecuación, el discurso heideggeriano en tomo a la “esencia” de la verdad1, la identidad de la verdad con el ser, con lo cognoscible, o con otros saberes inconmensurables con la estructura lingüística de la ciencia... La falta de espacio -aparte de la falta de competencia- no me permite referirme a las discusiones actuales3, donde a mentido resulta difícil discernir la profundidad de la oscuridad4.

La Casa de las Gallinas perteneció a la realeza nazarí granadina, teniendo categoría de casa fuerte con carácter palaciego. Por ello, los Reyes Católicos adquirieron sus propiedades tras la conquista de la ciudad de Granada, incorporándola a la Alcaidía de la Alhambra. Hasta el siglo XIX siguió perteneciendo al Patrimonio Real, siendo durante mucho tiempo celosamente guardada por la Corona española, lo que no impidió que sus propiedades acabaran finalmente en manos de particulares. Hasta tal punto llegó a ser descuidada su enajenación que, a lo largo del siglo XX, la ubicación exacta de sus restos arqueológicos fue cayendo en el olvido. El análisis detallado de los testimonios gráficos y documentales que de ella se han conservado, nos permitió localizar in extremis su emplazamiento.

The “Institute for Social Research” was founded and maintained thanks to the fortune of the Argentine grain trader, Felix J. Weil. Its circle of theorists, known as the “Frankfurt School” since the 1960s, never thematized the anchoring of “critical theory” in the colonial structure of modernity. However, they did reveal the aporetic character of capitalist modernity’s development, and exemplarily theorized it as the “dialectic of the Enlightenment”, where a (post) colonial theory of the modern as a world-system asymmetrically integrating “central” and “peripheral” modernities is latent. This chapter studies the relationship between the Frankfurt School and Argentine intellectual history in three main phases: between the founding of the Institute in 1923 and the emergence of Peronism in Argentina; between Peronism and the military dictatorship of 1976–1983; in the post-dictatorship years up to the present day. The hypothesis that guides this work is simple: remembering the Argentine origins of the Frankfurt School is a way of promoting the “remembrance of nature within the subject”, which in this case is the subject of critical theory itself.

Within ordinary ---unitary--- quantum mechanics there exist global protocols that allow to verify that no definite event ---an outcome to which a probability can be associated--- occurs. Instead, states that start in a coherent superposition over possible outcomes always remain as a superposition. We show that, when taking into account fundamental errors in measuring length and time intervals, that have been put forward as a consequence of a conjunction of quantum mechanical and general relativity arguments, there are instances in which such global protocols no longer allow to distinguish whether the state is in a superposition or not. All predictions become identical as if one of the outcomes occurs, with probability determined by the state. We use this as a criteria to define events, as put forward in the Montevideo Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. We analyze in detail the occurrence of events in the paradigmatic case of a particle in a superposition of two different locations. We argue that our approach provides a consistent single-world picture of the universe, thus allowing an economical way out of the limitations imposed by a recent theorem by Frauchiger and Renner showing that having a self-consistent single-world description of the universe is incompatible with quantum theory. In fact, the main observation of this paper may be stated as follows: If quantum mechanics is extended to include gravitational effects to a QG theory, then QG, S, and C are satisfied.

We make a first attempt to axiomatically formulate the Montevideo interpretation of quantum mechanics. In this interpretation environmental decoherence is supplemented with loss of coherence due to the use of realistic clocks to measure time to solve the measurement problem. The resulting formulation is framed entirely in terms of quantum objects without having to invoke the existence of measurable classical quantities like the time in ordinary quantum mechanics. The formulation eliminates any privileged role to the measurement process giving an objective definition of when an event occurs in a system.

La investigación centra su interés en determinar el impacto que ha tenido la implementación de la cátedra de la Paz en las instituciones educativas de Ciudad Bolívar en la construcción de paz y ciudadanía. Desde la investigación cualitativa en una perspectiva hermenéutica y el método narrativo, se realizó una revisión documental. Se concluye que, el abordaje de la cátedra de la paz requiere en la escuela, una perspectiva holística que fomente la reflexión crítica sobre el conflicto armado, construcción de memoria histórica, fortalecimiento del tejido social y cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible.

We argue that it is fundamentally impossible to recover information about quantum superpositions when a quantum system has interacted with a sufficiently large number of degrees of freedom of the environment. This is due to the fact that gravity imposes fundamental limitations on how accurate measurements can be. This leads to the notion of undecidability: there is no way to tell, due to fundamental limitations, if a quantum system evolved unitarily or suffered wavefunction collapse. This in turn provides a solution to the problem of outcomes in quantum measurement by providing a sharp criterion for defining when an event has taken place. We analyze in detail in examples two situations in which in principle one could recover information about quantum coherence: a) “revivals” of coherence in the interaction of a system with the measurement apparatus and the environment and b) the measurement of global observables of the system plus apparatus plus environment. We show in the examples that the fundamental limitations due to gravity and quantum mechanics in measurement prevent both revivals from occurring and the measurement of global observables. It can therefore be argued that the emerging picture provides a complete resolution to the measurement problem in quantum mechanics.

School tourism constitutes a source of learning to strengthen the cultural identity of students. The objective was to compare the development of school tourism in the educational institutions San Pedro Chanel and Carlos Augusto Salaverry. The Leiper space approach was used. The exhibition was constituted by 200 high school students and 20 teachers. The results show that there is statistically significant differences regarding the knowledge of the tourist resources of the province of Sullana. It was concluded that educational tourism is a strategy that tries to bring the student closer to knowledge, awareness and assessment of tourist resources.

Aunque el denominado problema de marco generó múltiples debates a finales del siglo pasado, aún es un problema fundamental para el avance en las Ciencias Cognitivas, en general, y para la Inteligencia Artificial, en particular. En este trabajo, y restringiéndonos al aspecto lógico del problema, postulamos que la discusión actual y subyacente a este aspecto gira en torno a cómo determinar lo que no cambia en términos de acciones y propiedades dentro de un sistema lógico formal. Es sobre este aspecto, y en función de sus dificultades (i) definicional y (ii) resolutiva, que en este trabajo argumentaremos que el denominado “criterio temporal” no solamente puede estimarse como uno los principales requerimientos teóricos para (i) resolverlo sino también para (ii) explicitar más claramente su dificultad principal, a saber, “lo que es relevante” frente al cambio en el tiempo. De esta manera, sostenemos que el razonamiento lógico-temporal resulta necesario para construir cualquier solución íntegramente satisfactoria del aspecto lógico del problema de marco entendido como el modo en que, inmediatamente, determinamos relevancia frente al cambio.

Résumé L’article vise à souligner la signification politique de l’avènement de la Critique kantienne. Pour ce faire, une double thèse est défendue : il y a une matrice juridique sous-jacente au mouvement conceptuel de la philosophie critique, dont la puissance émancipatrice et révolutionnaire se manifeste à la lumière du contexte historique de sa formulation. L’argument se déploie de la façon suivante : une exploration des rapports entre la formule « révolution de la pensée » que l’on trouve dans la Critique de la raison pure et le contexte historique de la publication l’œuvre ; ensuite un examen de la métaphore juridique et la façon dont elle incarne l’idée d’une philosophie critique ; et pour conclure la suggestion d’une hypothèse interprétative d’après laquelle le « contrat originaire » est un opérateur conceptuel accomplissant un mouvement analogue à celui qui est exigé de la philosophie critique : le passage du niveau individuel au niveau intersubjectif.The aim of the article is to highlight the political significance of the advent of Kant’s Critique. In order to establish it, a double thesis is defended: there is a juridical matrix underlying the conceptual movement of the critical philosophy, whose emancipatory and revolutionary strength is revealed in the light of the context of its formulation. The argument will be deployed in the following way: an exploration of the connections between the formula “a revolution in thought” articulated in the Critique and the historical context of its publication; followed by an exam of the juridical metaphor of the Tribunal and the way in which it embodies the idea of a critical philosophy and finally, as a conclusion, the suggestion of an interpretative hypothesis according to which the notion of contract is a conceptual operator accomplishing an analogous movement to the one required from the critical philosophy: the passage from the subjective level to the intersubjective one.

La Bohemia como corriente literaria es poco estudiada. En este artículo analizamos de manera breve la presencia de la Bohemia en el cuento “De ultratumba” del autor José Juan Tablada. Mediante un método comparativo logramos encontrar que existe una presencia de la Bohemia como la entiende Henry Murger. Es la primera vez que se investigan elementos bohemios en Tablada ya que la mayoría de los análisis se encaminan a su época vanguardista y la influencia de la cultura asiática en su obra, de ahí la originalidad y el valor de este artículo.

This work presents a novel approach to forecast streaming big time series based on nearest similar patterns. This approach combines a clustering algorithm with a classifier and the nearest neighbours algorithm. It presents two separate stages: offline and online. The offline phase is for training and finding the best models for clustering, classification and the nearest neighbours algorithm. The online phase is to predict big time series in real time. In the offline phase, data are divided into clusters and a forecasting model based on the nearest neighbours is trained for each cluster. In addition, a classifier is trained using the cluster assignments previously generated by the clustering algorithm. In the online phase, the classifier predicts the cluster label of an instance, and the proper nearest neighbours model according to the predicted cluster label is applied to obtain the final prediction using the similar patterns. The algorithm is able to be updated incrementally for online learning from data streams. Results are reported using electricity consumption with a granularity of |$10$| minutes for 4-hour-ahead forecasting and compared with well-known online benchmark learners, showing a remarkable improvement in prediction accuracy.

La investigación centra su interés en determinar el impacto que ha tenido la implementación de la cátedra de la Paz en las instituciones educativas de Ciudad Bolívar en la construcción de paz y ciudadanía. Desde la investigación cualitativa en una perspectiva hermenéutica y el método narrativo, se realizó una revisión documental.
