Meillassoux’s critique of correlationism establishes one of the most productive fault-lines in contemporary metaphysics: if every philosophical framework conditions being upon some form of access — experiential, cognitive, or conceptual — then genuine ontological realism remains out of reach. This paper examines whether Flovien Theory, a meta-ontological framework organized around the thesis that translation precedes existence, is itself vulnerable to this charge. It complements recent Flovien work on consciousness (Sueyoshi 2026c) by addressing the correlationist objection at the meta-ontological level: where that work shows how consciousness arises as a mode of describability, the present paper defends the ontological conditions that make describability itself possible. We argue that the apparent resemblance to correlationism dissolves once translation is properly understood as a formal-ontological structure rather than a subjective or epistemic operation. Drawing on the Flovien concepts of Qualion (Q = (S, R, D)) and Translation Resistance, formalized via the Fisher-Rao metric on statistical manifolds, we show that (1) the translational field is prior to, not dependent upon, any subject-pole; (2) formal describability is an ontological predicate structurally continuous with relational individuation as developed in ontic structural realism; and (3) Translation Resistance constitutively marks the excess of being over any translational closure, thereby preserving ontological transcendence. Furthermore, we argue that Meillassoux’s own appeal to mathematical formalization as a route beyond correlation remains vulnerable to a translational reinterpretation: mathematics is itself a historically evolved translational framework, and its effectiveness does not establish the subject-independence Meillassoux requires. The paper situates Flovien Theory within the intersection of speculative realism, ontic structural realism, and process ontology, identifying it as a form of processual structuralism that advances the post-correlationist project while addressing unresolved difficulties in each tradition.

This paper develops translational ontology and applies it to consciousness. A Qualion field Q is a set of minimal responsive units; the Internal Translational Flow Matrix T = [τij], where τij = I(sj(t); si(t+1) | ξ(t)), captures directed informational coupling after conditioning out external input. Translation-Closure Integration Ψ(Q) is the minimum bidirectional cut weight on the induced directed graph GT. The threshold Ψc is defined as the infimum of Ψ values at which external reconstruction first fails: Ψc = inf{Ψ(Q) : εext(Q) > 0}. Systems with Ψ > Ψc are dual-mode: their internal flow graph is not recoverable from marginal distributions alone, making a first-person descriptive mode structurally available. This structural asymmetry — not ontological dualism — is the source of the explanatory gap. Four empirically distinguishable predictions follow. The framework is compared with Integrated Information Theory, Global Neuronal Workspace Theory, and Higher-Order Theories.

Why these five axioms and not others? IIT's foundational structure rests on phenomenological stipulation rather than principled derivation—a gap that has resisted resolution within IIT's own resources. This paper closes that gap. We introduce Translational Ontology, a meta-ontological framework that derives four of IIT's five axioms from the structure of description itself, replaces the contested exclusion axiom with the Maximum Ψ Principle, and dissolves the substrate-selection problem by showing that descriptive regimes are self-constituting. The central concept is translation resistance: the structural non-isomorphism that persists between any two descriptive regimes after all available translation operations have been applied. Grounding translation resistance in the Fisher–Rao metric, we define Ψ (Translation-Closure Integration) as the geodesic excess of an experiential trajectory—a trajectory-level complement to Φ that allows multiple experiential streams to coexist with graded phenomenological salience. The result is an extension of IIT, not a rejection: consciousness is not what happens when integration overcomes resistance, but what happens when resistance is inhabited productively.

This paper argues that the irreducible non-correspondence between descriptive regimes—here termed translation resistance—is not a defect of finite cognition but a constitutive condition of creative becoming. Beginning from a transcendental argument about the structure of ontological description, I show that translation resistance is structurally homologous with what Whitehead calls Eros: the cosmological lure toward novel realization that depends on the non-coincidence of actuality and possibility. Both phenomena share a relational structure of productive asymmetry and a self-cancellation condition—their resolution would destroy the dynamic they enable. From this structural homology two further claims follow: love is best understood not as achieved mutual transparency but as sustained responsiveness to an irreducibility one neither resolves nor abandons; and creativity is the generation of a new descriptive regime through resonance across resistant registers, not the overcoming of difference but its amplification into form. The paper situates these claims in dialogue with Whitehead, Deleuze, and Buddhist pratītyasamutpāda, arguing that a meta-ontological account of translation resistance clarifies why these traditions converge on the productive necessity of non-identity.

This paper argues that responsiveness constitutes a minimal meta-ontological condition underlying non-substantialist ontologies. Contemporary ontological frameworks increasingly reject static substances in favor of processes, relations, and individuation. Despite their diversity, these frameworks share implicit presuppositions that remain underexamined. This paper articulates a minimal meta-ontological condition—termed responsiveness—that underlies a broad class of non-substantialist ontologies. Responsiveness is defined as the capacity for state modification in systematic dependency on difference, without presupposing subjectivity, intentionality, or experience. Through systematic analysis of process ontologies, relational frameworks, individuation theories, autopoietic systems, and enactive approaches, the paper demonstrates via reductio arguments that responsiveness functions not merely as a common feature but as a necessary precondition for relational and processual existence—without which these ontologies collapse into the substantialism they oppose. The analysis engages critically with related concepts including affordance, disposition, and potentiality, clarifying responsiveness’s distinct meta-ontological status, its compatibility with both realist and constructivist interpretations, and its non-empirical character as a condition for intelligibility rather than a competing ontological posit. The paper concludes with targeted provocations for constructivist, enactivist, and process-philosophical research, arguing that making responsiveness explicit exposes unresolved tensions in each tradition.

This paper proposes Translational Ontology, a meta-ontological framework investigating the formal conditions under which ontological description is possible at all. Rather than advancing a new first-order inventory of what exists, the framework shifts focus to the structural constraints presupposed by any ontological claim. The central thesis is that translation, understood in a formal and non-linguistic sense, is a necessary condition of describability. What is described can never fully coincide with its description. From this starting point, the paper introduces interconnected concepts: Qualions as minimal units of describability, Response Fields as loci of interaction, Translation Resistance as the formal impossibility of complete identity, and Homeostatic Regression as a dynamic constraint preserving stability without teleology. The notion of an Infinite Phase grounds distinction itself as a pre-distinct transcendental condition. Shared Qualion Fields and Dual-Mode Existence explain hierarchical organisation while avoiding reductionism and strong emergentism. The framework is applied to dissolve the mind–body problem by reframing it as a category error arising from the conflation of descriptive modes with ontological kinds. Situated in dialogue with Kantian transcendental philosophy, process thought, and East Asian relational traditions, Translational Ontology offers a systematic account of why relational and non-substantialist ontologies recur across philosophical contexts. The result is not a new metaphysics of being, but a metaontology of describability. This paper is a conceptual preprint and does not present an empirical or testable theory.
