To me, the only thing that matters in any human expression is the value of ideas. Everything else is mere vanity. Whenever I read, write, or ponder over something, I recall the words of Georges Santayana: "Theory helps us to bear our ignorance of fact." (The Sense of Beauty - 1896).

In the field of ideas, I still think that science is the only thing capable of making philosophy go beyond supposition and rhetoric, and that philosophy is the only thing capable of making science go beyond fact and blindness. To the establishment of conflicts between both, I give the name of ignorance.
