Vitor Sommavilla

I am an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at Universidade Federal da Paraíba, in João Pessoa, Brazil. I specialize in Moral and Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Action. Some topics of recent interest include: constructivism and constitutivism in ethics; theories of reasons, agency, values and normativity; moral and political disagreement; issues around the ethics of belief; selfhood and personal identity; and the role and merits of philosophical reflection. I make an effort to be interdisciplinary in my research, attempting to be receptive to knowledge produced by different areas of the Humanities and the Sciences. I am also interested in different traditions of philosophical enquiry, drawing insights from both Anglo-Saxon and Continental European philosophy, in trying to carve out my own views.
