La Modernidad tecnológica en Hannah Arendt
    Dilemata 43 111-124. 2026.

Attentional orienting and awareness: Evidence from a discrimination task
with Ana B. Chica, Paolo Bartolomeo, and Juan Lupiáñez
    Consciousness and Cognition 20 (3): 745-755. 2011.
We used several cue–target SOAs and three different degrees of cue predictability , to investigate the role of awareness of cue–target predictability on cueing effects. A group of participants received instructions about the informative value of the cue, while another group did not receive such instructions. Participants were able to extract the predictive value of a spatially peripheral cue and use it to orient attention, whether or not specific instructions about the predictive value of the cu…Read more

with Olaf Kaltmeier, José Augusto Pádua, and Adrián Gustavo Zarrilli
    BiUP. 2024.
Socio-ecological conflicts about land use in Latin America are complex: they involve various actors and flare up due to the dynamics of colonization, spatial appropriation, and the commodification of land. This volume of the Handbook »The Anthropocene as Multiple Crisis« focuses on land use in the main macro-regions of Latin America from the colonial regime to the contemporary era of the Anthropocene. The contributions touch upon numerous aspects, from the transformations of material to the soci…Read more

This paper examines four aspects of the cognitive biology of Octopus vulgaris which, considered together, point to a model of neural organization radically different from that of vertebrates: the peripheral distribution of most of its nervous system, the presence of functional photoreceptors in the skin, the existence of active sleep states analogous to mammalian REM, and the behaviors commonly described as 'play.' The paper proposes the term 'confederal' for this organization, in contrast to th…Read more

El artículo propone denominar «confe…Read more

Confirmation of conditionals and Carnap’s reduction sentences

Forecasting temperature in geothermal heat pump using deep learning for enhanced residential building energy management
with Paulo Novais, Francisco S. Marcondes, Afonso Bessa, Andrés-José Piñón-Pazos, and Pedro Oliveira
Logic Journal of the IGPL 34 (3). 2026.
Global warming, mainly caused by greenhouse gas emissions, presents an emergency in which green energies are expected to play a significant role. While renewable technologies such as wind, solar, and hydropower dominate green energy generation, geothermal energy is gaining attention as a viable and reliable alternative. When combined with heat pumps, geothermal systems offer a consistent heat supply unaffected by weather variability, making them particularly suitable for replacing fossil fuels i…Read more

The Origin of Truth in Post-Truth Times
    Ideas Y Valores 74 (189): 43-64. 2025.
This article investigates the meaning of “The Origin of Truth” (Merleau-Ponty) with the aim of addressing the post-truth phenomenon that prevails today. It begins by examining the phenomenological connection between truth and evidence to understand Merleau-Pontian perceptual “faith” and its relationship with the Urdoxa (Husserl). The study analyzes its development thanks to language as well as its instrumentalization in the post-truth era. In contrast, it describes the influence of expression on…Read more

Towards a medical ethics of suffering: ontological and practical foundations
with Eduardo García-Rico, Aurea Esparza de la Sota, Ana Olano Daza, and Lorena Garcia
    Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy 29 (2): 383-399. 2026.
This paper proposes a radical reconfiguration of medical ethics by placing suffering—not as a clinical symptom or ancillary datum, but as an ontological category—at the center of ethical deliberation. In the face of a fragmented and technified clinical practice, we argue that suffering is the only truly universal human experience, irreducible to cultural, linguistic, or ideological variations. As such, it offers a potent, immanent foundation for a non-relative ethics in medicine. Drawing on the …Read more

with David Rodríguez-Arias, Luis Espericueta, Gonzalo Díaz-Cobacho, Jed Adam Gross, and Janet Delgado
    Bioethics 40 (3): 350-358. 2026.
Organ Donation after Medical Aid in Dying (OD-MAiD) is currently practised in four countries: Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, and Spain. While OD-MAiD shares some similarities with MAiD (absent the possibility of organ donation) and with standard organ donation protocols, the combination of OD and MAiD involves unique circumstances that present novel ethical challenges. These challenges revolve around donors' consent and protection, the dead donor rule, and organ allocation. This paper explore…Read more

Hempel’s paradox is not an actual cognitive problem

The Moral Evolution of Albert Camus’ Thought
    Azafea: Revista de Filosofia 27 225-246. 2025.
This article aims to study the moral evolution of Albert Camus’s thought, shifting from an individual and absurd dimension to a collective and supportive one. The Stranger and The Myth of Sisyphus explore the absurd at the individual level, proposing rebellion as the only way out of it. From The Misunderstanding onward, Camus’s thought embraces a defense of solidarity, which will be expressed most clearly in The Plague and will become the moral value that justifies rebellion. In summary, our art…Read more

Visualizing the Role of Past Women as Artists: A Proposal From the Arsmaya Research Group
with Cristina Vidal Lorenzo, Núria Feliu Beltrán, Patricia Horcajada Campos, María Ángeles Martí Bonafé, Gaspar Muñoz Cosme, Esther Parpal Cabanes, and María Luisa Vázquez de Ágredos Pascual
In Jo Zalea Matias, Nicola Scheyhing & Doris Gutsmiedl-Schümann (eds.), Diversity in Visual Representations of the Past: Representation Matters, Springer Nature Switzerland. pp. 81-91. 2025.
In recent years, research applying a gender perspective has proliferated and has contributed to reversing the androcentric view that has traditionally prevailed in the study of ancient societies. However, these important advances remain insufficient, especially with regard to the representation of diversity or of the participation of women in tasks outside the household context. In addition, these initiatives have rarely crossed the borders between specialized academic fields. In this situation,…Read more

Context: Cognitive studies seem to show that two kinds of tasks are controversial. Both have a quantified premise, a quantified conclusion, and a disjunction in the premise. The difference is that the quantifier (both in the premise and in the conclusion) is existential in one of them, and universal in the other one. In both cases, the conclusion is one of the disjuncts. To infer its disjuncts from a disjunction is not correct in First-Order Predicate Calculus. However, people tend to accept the…Read more

with Katy Machoa and Gabriela Gallardo Lastra
    Feminist Review 138 (1): 1-19. 2024.
In contrast to the dominant paradigm of liberal feminist democracy, which operates from a top-down approach and emphasises individual empowerment, this article explores the alternative framework of radical feminist democracy. This alternative model is grounded in collective action from grassroots movements and aims to centre the voices of subaltern women who have often been marginalised in mainstream discourse that focuses on the role of women in democracy. The primary objective of this article …Read more

Corporate philanthropy strategy integrated into the core business constitutes a novel vision and a little‐explored field of study with regard to corporate social commitment. The goal of this study is to analyse how the diverse ways of managing and assuring philanthropy can be considered signals of a firm's social commitment and consequently affect its market value. In addition, the analysis considers whether the business sector moderates those relationships. We aim to provide a comprehensive vis…Read more
